Console life-span?

Well, I'm thinking of buying a console sometime in the future, and I'm wondering what is the average life-span of the consoles, that is how long until the new "Playstation 4" or "Xbox 720" (Made up) comes out after the previous one, and what is more bang for the buck, ps3 or xbox 360? I've read you need to buy a lot of "extras" for 360, while ps3 comes pretty much ready out of the box, but I need your opinions. Also, which console is more stable, ps3 or xbox 360? I've heard a lot about the red ring of death on 360 and overheating, but nothing about ps3 problems, but may be you know better?

The 500 other PS3 or 360, should I get a 360, is a 360 worth it, ect. post's aren't enough to make up your mind?

You haven't heard any problems about the PS3 because nobody has one :P They fixed the 360s overheating problem with the new "falcon" chip (someone posted something about how to know if a 360 in a store has a "falcon" chip instead of the olds ones, search around the threads.), and it has games like Halo, Orange Box (I heard the 360 version > PS3 version), Mass Effect, Skate, and others. I wouldn't worry too much about a PS4, or X-Box 720, because if they do come out it won't be for another 3-4 years probably (4th gen consoles lol). The Pro Bundle for the 360 is $350, it comes with the hard drive, console (no $h*t), headset, wireless controller, and I think 1 month of xbox live, and also 2 games (Forza 2, and a Marvel Game, you can always trade em in :wink: ). All you really need extra is another controller ($50), and a couples games (usually $60/ea)

You really don't need extras for the 360. Only extra that I have bought has been 3 months of Live($20). You could get the HD DVD player(not needed at all) or wireless internet adapter(I prefer wired as my 360 is only about 20 feet from my modem.

 

 

 

Also, they have claimed to get rid of the RROD problem. Even if you don't, it comes with a three year warranty.

 

 

 

360 also has much better games out now, even though PS3 should have some good ones coming out in the future.

the extras you speak of that you have to buy are:

 

 

 

wireless networking adapter (only needed if your not in your computer room)

 

faceplates (not needed but they look cool [i have halo 3 face plate 8-) ])

 

memory unit.(the hard drive is big enough until you start downloading a bunch of stuff)

 

play and charge kit ( not really needed unless you plan on having only one controller)

 

 

 

there so the only thing you really need to buy for the 360 is the wire;ess adapter unless you can somehow put it in your computer room other than that everything you need comes in the box

The 360 is worth it...you don't really need many add-ons. I haven't bought a single one yet..if I do, it will be an Intercooler most likely. I've got an ethernet cable going to my room, so I just switch between my computer and the 360. The HD-DVD player is only needed if you want to watch movies...the Wireless adapter is as above, only if you cant get access to the cable.Headset and cable is included. Everything you need is right there. The only extra thing you'll most likely ever buy is maybe the Intercooler..and that's not including Xbox Live or Games. Live is pretty cheap also...it's like, what, 4$ a month or $50 for a 12-month card?

First of all, you don't need a bunch of addons for 360. If your getting that impression because of a certain yahoo answers answer, that post by that guy is the most biased bunch of BS you'll ever read. Actually, you don't need any at all, it comes with everything you need. The only beef I have with addons are that extra controllers run 40-50 bucks, which I think is ridiculous.

In my opinion, go with the 360, only because I've been hearing alot about the delays for games and developers having problems. Sure, the ps3 will probably establish itself eventually like Sony keeps saying, but why wait? The 360 has already established itself.

Depends on what you like...

 

If you want a reliable console then the PS3

 

if you want to have the online experience possible then the 360

 

if you want a console with loads of features then the PS3

 

If you want good games then either console would do.

Agreed. And the fact that there are not even 10 great games out on the PS3. Well, maybe 10, but NO MORE than 10. :P
