It's not infinite. It treats it as a player stock I think so there's only a few per a world.

Maybe another way: POH (player owned house) If you don't have a high enough larder, you can borrow mine.

Pretty sure you lose the items when you leave the house.

 

I'd go with the chest, can't think of anything else.
