Quer_Skulll
very very nice  only the connection to land and water looks slighly unrealistic.

ColAvanor
The texture is pretty blurry. Work on it on a bigger resolution. The random "clouds"?? on it are just ...EW..and very unrealistic.
teenageloser33
Yeah, ok Col, hard to take advice from someone like you. Actually my resolution is at 300 which is very high and it's probably blurry because of the clouds. I gotta delete some of the clouds layers but I guess thats what you get when you go for realism; not something that looks like a huge chunk of brown dirt. I went for the realism and I think I achieved it but not to the fullest, I'll edit the clouds some but they aren't random it's centeralized like a big strom is brewing over an area, if it was random then it'd be here and their and not make sense why. Hard to take advice from someone like me? Excuse me but are you trying to insult me here? Sure seems that way. Actually, I really don't give a dam since I sure know my planets would out rank you any day. And I wasn't talking about the white thing in the middle. I was talking about those little things ontop. The ones made of solid color and sharp edges (set to overlay?). I really haven't seen anything resembling those in real planets (or planets made by artist for that matter). Keiphus
Now now kids... The best thing to do is get some stock textures and "create" your own textures from those. Not a bad start but keep on working at it. This is one of those things that no matter how much you read about it, it doesn't help unless you sit down and do it. And keep doing it. ColAvanor
Btw some "constructive critisism". I showed it to my 15-year-old lil brother. Without any "preparations" he said "my god that's blurry" before the whole image even loaded. Upon lookin at it during less bright circumstances (evening) I noticed it has about 5 or 6 layer cuts (you know....sudden cuts in brightness/color) in the space area. Might want to remove those. And Keiphus...that's propably what he did and what I did anyway. (and don't you "kid" me   )
teenageloser33
I'm not doubting that your planets would "out rank" mine, but I guess you don't know that this is only the 2nd planet I've ever done. And Keiphus I did use stock textures and create my own, that's how I got it this way. Here is a new version the reason it was "blurry" is because of the very transparent clouds that sometimes go over earth, but then again this isn't earth. Fixed it up a bit. And sorry about my comment Col just had a really bad day at school, and I'm editor of our newspaper and I had to deal with this major a-hole that wanted to advertise with us. ColAvanor
I don't want to come off rude after you have offered a peacefull way out of this quarrel. But. Why is there always the "but"? gosh.... Just advice...non flamatory. It is still blurry. If you haven't, my suggestion is to make the texture in twice the resolution vs the planet. So that it can come off clean and crispy after the spherize. If you have done this..cool, but then I'd start with a spiffyer texture since it does seem IMO a bit like a huge boulder covered with moss  :D Oh and the layer thingies I mentioned...they are very minor and I doupt many can see them (don't have PS at hand so I can't shove em in their faces by amplifying   ) but you could spot a cut in the left part of the planets atmosphere (right on the equator). I do know it is your 2nd planet and so was mine actually...hehe. I congratulate you on far more realistic color scheme than mine and normally I wouldn't have started anything like this. I just read the parts "hard to take advice from someone like you = you are an utter noob when it comes to PS". And "not something that looks like brown dirt = ha, that planet you made...sure it didn't get its birth in a toilet?". Btw the clouds you removed, nothing wrong in them. (well, could use a bit more character ). I was actually talking about things still in it. All in all. Good job for a second planet. For the record I stood in rain outside in chilling temperatures for 5 hours yesterday shivering for the latter half of it without headgear or gloves. Which of course resulted in a major headache and fever today. It might be my vision that's blurry....
teenageloser33
Thanks col, if you could can you make like a red circle where the atmosphere is messed up and the blurred part, and I'm gonna try and do a bit more green and brown texture brushing so it looks more like a land mass lol. ice_ring
I really don't like it... The thing is that I see you are using Alyn's guide, and you are having the same trouble as me, I get that spotty unrealistic look. I really don't know how to correct it, I've tried every blending mode and it still doesn't look right...bleh :P
teenageloser33
Actually I'm not using any guide thanks, I'm going off linear knowledge and help from a few friends, not using a guide. When you use a guide you become reliant upon them and thus not being able to develop a unique style. So in that case I'll take poor assumptions for 1000 alex

Not a bad start but keep on working at it. This is one of those things that no matter how much you read about it, it doesn't help unless you sit down and do it. And keep doing it. Yeah, i usualy start off with a stock photo (or an actual nasa photo) of a planet such as earth/mars whatever. I manip it to hell with cloning, ect. Than get a few stock photos and work them with it. The texture should "look right" when you do it. also, you want your texture to have depth. Right now it seems as if your planet is Flat. If you haven't yet, do a double Spherize 100% on it, and also, read up on alyns part about using emboss, it can help your planet alot. and don't be afraid of the "sharpen" tool. Trust me, my planet at first.. looked like crap, but after sharpening up a bit it was much better. just make sure you don't overdo it :) Good luck.
