I wouldnt melee them with your stats.. get at least 70 def and wear torags. Get 55 slayer(if you dont already have) and use slayer dart in full rune. In my experience the only effective melee weapon is Godsword with Piety and Pots. Verac is a possibility but magic is comparable to Verac. Stick with mage until you have 90+ attack/strength.
