New camera angles?

OK, these are two suggestions for new in-game technics features, or something.

1. I think it would be awesome to be able to zoom in on your character. I do this for these reasons:

* Easier, cooler and more fun to check up on how you and people next to you look

* Ability to take more artistic and sweet-looking screenshots and videos

* Easier to navigate and view "camera-fixing" places, such as mountain areas which lock the view in an unrotatable top-down perspective

* Just added overall quality and class to the game

* Camera functions hasn't been updated since introduction of RS2

It could work as a smooth one-step zoom, by holding a key on the keyboard for example. The camera would then move in on your character, so he nearly fills the screen (vertically, that is), still allowing you to move the camera around.

It could also be a toggle function, meaning that you press a key once and the camera would switch mode until you press it again. Personally I think the hold would be more convenient.

Another option is to make it a gradual zoom-in, accessible maybe by mouse-wheel.

2. The first-person camera view (means viewing the game from your character's eyes)! This, apart from being insanely cool, is good because:

* Added realistic feeling, whole new way to experience the game!

* Easier (and again, a lot cooler) to inspect interiors

* Invites to more personal and serious chats and clan meetings

* Again, more variety and style to screenshots and videos

* Could ease certain tasks such as pickpocketing

* Makes a long tedious walk way more fun

Definitely more of a toggle than the zoom, maybe a button in the in-game settings. The camera rotate keys should be restricted to match reality (you shouldn't be able to rotate to view your spine, for example).

I'm very well aware that this might be impossible without a complete new game engine, but hey, all updates can't be game content, right? :)

Post thoughts! Possible?

It would be pretty cool, especially when fighting or something.

I was thinking of suggesting a sky- but I don't like to have more than one topic on page 1 on the same forum, especially small ones. I think computers can more than easily support a longer draw distance, and that would be required to make sure that it didn't look like you are constantly on a hill, see my fake. If they lengthened the draw distance and added a more flexible camera angle, it would make a nice addition- RuneScape always looks so dark, just go take a look by the sea.

Nah, adding a sky with out a new draw distance and camera angles just doesn't work.

Perhaps, if you like my idea, you could merge it into this thread to spare me making another one?

I think JaGex said in a article about updates in 2008 that they might release weather. I ahve no idea how this would be implemented, but i suppose the weather from Pokemon (where you just see rain splattering around you, strong sun rays beating down etc.) wouldn't be bad. Still no sky though.

Hmmm....

I need a new siggy, get round to doing it later.

Probably.

primitive sky would be easy for them, just clear with blue instead of black

that would make every pixel of the screen that isn't drawn to blue instead of black, though there would be parts of sky closer than the horizon due to the low draw distance (they could give us a slider to control draw distance.. so as to not annoy the people with slower computers)

I can see a tiny little problem coming with fist-person view.. seeing as you can never see ceilings now, they probably aren't there at all, so they'd have to add ceilings (and lamps etc) to every house in runescape! or they could keep them invisible, but that'd look odd..

Playing RS since Nov. 2002 (but with various breaks)

Although the sky seems like a good idea, I won't add it to this suggestion since I find it too distinct (lengthening draw distance, inserting a draw distance slider etc) to not be made an individual suggestion. It is, however, an interesting idea and I'd totally support it :)

Would be cool to see a tropical wagtail in first-person-view against a blue sky =)

Hmm, true... didn't think of that. But maybe the graphics team could use some extra work now with the completion of Summoning?

Oh yea, i can't wait until you use actually start to use your brain.

Even if your not the one changing camera angles, other people will, therefore lagging up the server.

That wouldn't produce massive lag.

the zoom sounds really cool, but i dont think 1st person view would work well with the current graphics; prolly woundt look that great. possible addition for rs3?

There is no RS3 Jagex have said so themselves. (Quick find code: 14-15-773-53817401)

I am 50/50 towards this idea. I think unless the graphics are upgraded it would be useless. But aswell Im not sure if i myself would use these features who knows. But it would prove an interesting update.
