upthebanner
Before GE I used to buy steel bars at 550 each to level up smithing. This is a serious money drain and actually I stopped when steel bars reached 600gp because I thought that was too expensive. I tried to buy iron bars but these appeared hard to come by in the sort of quantities I needed. Now with the GE I assume iron bars are easy to get for approx 200 and steel bars are back to 550. So which should I buy for smithing or should I buy addy or mith bars? I have at present a smith level of 90 and have 53k steel bars but obviously I could sell these and convert to another type of bar. I also do not want to use up all my money as I need to have alot to trade efficiently in the GE. Discuss or advise please!!!!!!!
demonelves
I hear you on this one. I just got fed up and starting my own gold and smithing that (ok back on topic). I hear a lot of times people just buy addy bars and make bolts. Mine always well but just took about a day or so, or you could just make mith plates. I hope i could be of some help. Good Luck man! lordkafei
You can break even with silver (ores and bars both at 180), but smelting silver bars is a long, long haul. Polnar
Well I've done lots of different things getting to 80, when I was back in F2P I used to mine coal buy iron and and smelt steel bars to sell, a full inventory of coal takes around 5 minutes to mine. While a member I made around 80k cannon balls, however even 10k takes a monumentous effort and is mind numbingly dull. Other methods included buying the ore for 2k adamant bars and smelting and smithing them into adamant bolts, unfortunately I finished just as the price dove from 300-210 gp per bolt. I've also used mithril ore gained from ankou training by buying coal, smelting and smithing into mith bolts to sell or use. Other ways include super-heating in the mining guild and dwarven mine, (adamant and mithril) and then selling or using the bars, obviously this includes an extra nature rune. lordkafei
iron is best xp/gp and iron knives sell really, really well. Sell instantly (or almost) on GE? My last batch took over 2 weeks to sell. And I have several thousand there now that have been available for 4+ days... Where are all these knife buyers I keep reading about? Knotch_Blade
The market is smothered with Iron Knives. Don't make them if you want profit. ~Knotch My Gamercard | Click for Blog | Mining Guide | Illumination
guywho
stick to steel bars. because i can give you some good reasons to stay on it if you do want to save money. addy bars = 2.6k mith bars = 1.2k steel bars = 560 those are the price of the bars at the moment in the ge. and assuming that you can buy it at that price. i am assuming you are going to make plates out of the bars so i give you the stuff i calculated that i had done. I too want to get 99 smithing and want to do it at the lowest cost that i can do. xp per plate cost total if you buy the bar at price above addy plate= 312.5xp = 13k mith plate= 250x p= 6k steel plate= 187.5xp = 2.8k so far you are paying addy=41.6 gp per xp gain mith=24 gp per xp gain steel=14.3 gp per xp gain as you can see so far those are the posible cost for the xp you want steel bars are the logical choice to use to level up. And i didn't in the high alchem factor in yet. alching them: addy plate = 7680gp mith plate = 3210gp steel plate = 1200gp cost of 5 bars - high alching = total price for the 5 bars addy = 13000 - 7680 = 5320 mith = 6000 - 3120 = 2880 steel = 2800 - 1200 = 1600 so take the total and divide it by the xp gain for every plate addy = 5320 / 312.5 = 17.024 gp per xp mith = 2880 / 250 = 11.52 gp per xp steel = 1600 / 187.5 = 8.53 gp per xp so my plan for you is to stick to steel bars because you are paying less for every XP. even though the gp per xp may look like only 3-11 gp away from each other, but they all add up and could costing your milllions of gp while your are skilling that skill. Good Luck and i hope you can understand what I wrote. i havent tried iron bars but if magic says it is cheaper then it is cheaper.
