Luke_L
Schizophrenia is ruled out with Bipolar disorder. The DSM-IV states that Bipolar and Schizophrenia have different diagnostic credentials and that Bipolar only gives off Schizophrenia like symptoms. Are you sure you didn't mean Schizo-affective disorder? That contains elements of both Schizophrenia and Bipolar. It is believed Schizophrenic symptoms occur when there is an overlap in chromosome 13 and 22, significantly increasing by almost 3-fold when a member of the family has experienced psychotic Bipolar symptoms. It wouldn't surprise me that they may find Paranoid Schizophrenia existing in extreme Bipolar hypomania, in the near future however. They said it was schizophrenia, but yes; that's more accurate. The symptoms only come in extreme mania, e.g., the extreme paranoia and delusions. I've tried to tell them that I couldn't possibly have both at the same time, but they just dismissed me and I was stuck with accepting it. I'm certainly bipolar but the elements of schizophrenia are there, but not to such an extent as the rapid cycling which is something that was brought on by bad medication. It's very difficult to stop the cycling with medication (I'm on some nasty stuff; quetiapine, but it seems to work after a while) and it continues to have a profound effect on my life even whilst off my head on sedatives. It's frightening.
IGoddessI
I want to slap your psychologist in the head (or doctor, which ever got to you first) :) You can't give someone who has Bipolar and rapid cycles anything with antidepressants in it. It makes them either frighteningly hullucinate (Zoloft is prone for this) or triggers severe hypomania (Effexor Xr), which can result in a psychotic outburst or hospitalisation. Eliminating antidepressants from the mix in Lithium would be my first guess for a rapid-cycler (Please don't run out and try it). Also Omega 3 fish oil has been found to minimise iritable moods and aggression, despite critics saying it lacks evidence (this, I do recommend). What were you taking previously, if you don't mind me asking? The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. Luke_L
What were you taking previously, if you don't mind me asking? They put me straight on quetiapine, then introduced diazepam. I've been trying to damn well tell them they're doing me no good, but they won't ever listen to me... >_< I rapid cycle much worse due to them. They don't seem to get that it's not just a 'give me some sedation and an antidepressant' matter. It frustrates me.

I'd ditch the idiot who doesn't keep to DSM-IV guide lines like a bible and go see a mood disorder expert who actually knows what they're doing. I'm just failing to see how a qualified psychologist misses the fact that for Bipolar to be present, Schizophrenia needs to be ruled out :wall: The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. Howlin0001
I'm sorry if I'm a bit late. As weird as it sounds have you heard any song in the last while that could of made you realise something about yourself or anyone said something and it just hit you the wrong way or maybe you just realised something about your self that you don't actually want to know so your mind blocked it but you still are affected about it. Howlin0001
You two should cruise over to that emo site where they argue over who is the most depressed, and who has tried to commit suicide the most. I'm dunno about the other person but don't insult me. I'm not emo and when did I say anything about wanting to kill myself? I'm pretty sure I didn't so please don't make any statements without at least a tiny shred of proof.[/b]
