ROSSODIAVOLO
I was caught up in all the hype for summoning just a most people were, but I didn't think it'd turn out like this. To me, like someone else has said on these forums, the XP is the wrong way round, you should get low xp for making the pouch and the bulk of it for SUMMOMNING the familiar, afterall it is called Summoning not pouch making. It seems like a hybrid between herblore and runescrafting, runecrafting because its totally laborious, running back and forward to an obelisk. Herblore because you've gotta get the herbs (charms), buy the vials (shards and pouches) then go hunting for the seconds. Now unluckily for us, you cant grow your own charms like you can herbs, so it makes it even harder. I think its unfair for the charms to be monster drop only, pickpocketing and clue rewards should be introduced, and maybe even add something into pc, afterall they have herb, ore and seed packs, so maybe they'll introduce summoning packs with charms and shards in them ? I know this isnt a suggestion thread, But i think you should be able to mine your own shards once you get to a decent mining lvl, im thinking maybe 65 ? and also maybe crafting your own charms (They'd need to be used on the summoning obelisk to enchant them or whatever before you could use them tho) However, It seems to me that by not having a way to make shards this is just another money drain skill like construction, eventhough they stated on the balancing post that it can be the best money maker if you use the pouches, I dont see how that would work logically but nvm. But, as I wrote this I was killing jungle spiders on razmere's island (or whatever he's called) so I think its pretty safe to say, I do like it, and by trying to lvl it, my combat is gonna go up (It might keep me off my farming patches for a while) which can only be a good thing I suppose. (Sorry, I rambled a bit there)
CCCPsrevenge
i think that the summoning skill is ok but nothing great. its expensive and time-consuming to gain, so its more of a "kill monsters while your doing something else and get charms" type of skill. u can't really devote yourself to just getting charms ; it'll take way too long the penguin communists are after u, UPSR- union of penguin socialistic republic ^.^258 qp
Guest
I'm worried because i like doing quests and am going for the quest cape if runescape releases a new quest in which i need say 60 summoning I think im screwed! --- Oh and another thing its going to ruin the smithing skill because of the iron you need for iron crabs. Oops did i say Iron didn't i mean granite!!!! If only runescape could release so you could mine granite. Whats that they already have????? OMG THIS IS INSANE!! highlanders
Big disappointment It could have been such a great skill, but the exp with pouches and the prayer-like draining just kills it Btw, the last option: 'I dislike it, it's too hard' is completely stupid. People can dislike the skill for ANY reason, not only because it's too 'hard'. I bet the options were made by somebody who likes the skill, and thinks that automatically if you dislike it, you're a crybaby who thinks the skill is too hard  2480+ total
Bauke
I vote no, not because it's just too hard.. but because it fails in every single aspect. kwarlord
How can you make money from this again? Fight strictly in multi combat zones, while using pouches like a summoning nazi? you can make money from the secondary skills, like have a summoned thorny snail hold an extra fish to take to the bank. Take them into a multicombat dungeon to help fight with you, that'll cut down on fight times. And, like I said in another thread, sell the raw materials to make the pouches to other players at a profit. "Hey, I can't help it if I was born this cool." Sprout_teh_druid
Extreme dissapointment. Not only did JaGeX completely mislead us in the dev diaries and BTS, (for example, the BTS claims that the chaos tunnels are a great place to fight with your familiar and speed your way to the summoning skillcape, when we don't even get exp from fighting with them..) but we've basically been given 'pouchcrafting'. There is no fun in running back and forth between a bank and an obelisk. We already do that with runecrafting. In addition to this, despite what Jagex says, making money off this skill is nearly impossible. Noone wants to buy scrolls- they can easily make them themselves. With the exeption of a few familiars, nearly every familiar is close to useless. They are so limited in combat, the only possible use for them might be 'boss' monsters- but to even get familiars that are EFFECTIVE at that level, you need to spend millions into the skill. It takes my dreadfowl at LEAST 9 seconds to start attacking, and even then, the monsters that I want to fight for money are so high leveled compared to it, it even doing DAMAGE is rare. Plus, there's the fact that you can only use them in multicombat, which is both ridiculous and extremely limited. My familiars are based on my power- I spent the money and inventory space to get this familiar, so why can't I use it wherever I want? Summoning was advertised as 'the best skill ever' to attract quitting players back into the game. In my opinion, this skill is the WORST skill ever. I don't mind a hard skill- but what Jagex has done here is created an expensive, slower, and less rewarding RCing. Unless some serious changes are made, I don't plan on leveling this skill... (which kind of sucks for me, since i've wanted a pet dragon ever since I learned about cats..) Can be looted to obtain a variable item and reobtain the imp jar. If you are insane, it can instead be exchanged for impling jars from Elnock Inquisitor.
ajk822
Ok, so summoning was very hyped for a while so it sounded good. I held my judgment. I was happy that they were making a new quest too. First thing i did was read the summoning familiars and pets sections. I was all "awesome" they looked great and they had ability's that seemed useful but i read on. i saw the xp for summoning and i thought huh? how do we train it then? must be a typo. but then there was pouches. what a horrible idea! :wall: This is what people have been waiting for? I'm glad I'm a non-member and i am not coming back to members for summoning if at all. I asked my friends about it and they all said it was expencive. but then i read the runescape forums and there were estimates of about 200mil to get to 99 just in shards (this was before the "balancing"). we don't need another skill that costs money! Has Jajex not learned from their past skills? it seems as if they added the worst parts of many of them. the slow training of farming/runecrafting, the tediousness of runecrafting (runecrafters sorry i still love runecrafting) the lack of xp for actully using the skill like prayer, the extreme cost like construction and a new one: the inability to gather your own resources i.e. shards. I really wanted this skill to be good. I hope they make dramatic changes to it. I think for starters they should make it even more hunter based. i expected the things i summoned to be from materials gathered from hunter, as they said in the development diary that it would be to hunter as mining is to smithing. Did they lie to us? or are they just incredibly stupid? How much money do they think we make anyway that spending 200mil is justified? i have never nor will ever see that much and i'm lvl 91! i can't see how using them to train will be cost effective. I dearly hope i am wrong. My suggestion? stay at lvl 4 after the quest, get a puppy and enjoy the best part of summoning, the fact that you don't have to do it. P.s. first page woot Edit: i will henceforth refer to summoning as pouching Even after the skill comes out people are still getting stuff wrong. IT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE RELEASED TO HUNTER AS SMITHING IS TO MINING. READ 4031st person to 99 Thieving on 5/25/2008If anyone plays NBA Live '08 online on the Wii please PM me. I'm up for anyone. Navyvet1
I am actually enjoying plotting my strategy to determine the most cost effective way of levelling. I enjoy the challenge of trying to find just the right spot (for my level) to kill monsters for drops of Charms, while being close enough to a bank to make the gathering go by quicker. I've travelled to spots I have not been to in a long time to see where it works best. I have been all over the Map at this point, and I find I am enjoying the discovery of it all over again. I have been attacking EVERYTHING to see if they drop charms or not...the curiosity aspect has me hooked because there are no real Skill Guides yet. It took me a few hours, but I found a spot that works just right for my Level. I can understand the frustration of those players with higher combat levels...the Familiars that are in the low end spectrum of the scale are fairly useless (an Jagex already posted as much!). I really do not see this skill of much use to those who have already completed all quests, or those at 100+ levels. But it can be worthwhile to you if you make it so....assist in creating a comprehensive Skill Guide here on Tip.it. Get engaged on the site. Instead of being bitter, try and find a good aspect and expand on it. With the current set of Familiars, the benefit does not appear until you level above 50+. Who knows...maybe Jagex will make Charms tradeable with the next update...and maybe not. A good way of making money would be to gather (and sell) the Charms IF they are Tradeable...and if not, then you have enought to level pretty quick at "Pouch Creating" - my favorite nickname for this skill. To those saying it costs sooo much to level...I got to level 19 using less than 110K, and without needing to gather any more charms than what the Quest rewarded me with! I actually took the time to review the XP charts and plotted my course. I created and posted a guide for those in my Clan the day Summoning was released. It was very exciting working a Skill WITHOUT any guides out there. Everyone needs to train this skill differently...based on your current Stat Levels. There will be no "One Size, Fits All" way to do it, unlike all the other skills out there. This leaves it wide open for each player to find their OWN way of utilizing this skill to their advantage. I was VERY happy that this is not a skill that can be bought...OMG - you actually have to work at this Skill! *Shudder*...LOL  To those that have "Pure" Skillers...Get over it! So this isn't for you...TOUGH! The recent Jagex updates nullified the effective use of "Pure" characters anyway. With no Wildy, Pure Combat characters lost their edge. With the Trade restrictions in place, you can't drop trade from a Main or Friend in large quantities...so ditch the Pure and use your Main! The game has changed...like it or not...so ADAPT already! Instead of complaining, take the time and LEARN the Skill before sacrificing it to Rants! To end...it never seems to amaze me that I see posts from those who are not just "Awarded" a 99 in a skill as its released. This 1 is different. For those Players who enjoy the mechanics of the Game (I include myself in this) and get a thrill of determining the best way of turning things into an advantage, this is the Skill for us! For those with a Short attention Span and who require immediate results, this Skill is no good to you. :shame: I LIKE SUMMONING! (i.e. Pouch Creating - at least in the temporary sense) :D
