I have only ever seen one oerson cannoning at metals, and to be honest you will be better to bring 5 extra prayerpots/anti-fires than watsing 5 inventry spaces on cannon + cannonballs.

 

Also, the cannon will attack any dragon, so if you are going specifically for one metal, you will have to stop twice as long for when the cannon attacks the other metal.

I tried once, and then stopped after a minute because it hit so bad (all 0's) that I thought metals were immune to it or something.
