Biking tricks....

Recommended Posts

Who trick bikes? I have a "hard tailed" GT, perfect for tricks.

I just found a jump and I learned to bunny hop today(after around 12 years of biking!) what are some tips to get some air on the hop(already mastered the wheelie, and hang time jumps), tell some stories, and more tricks!!

My friend showed me it when he was taking out the trash at his work (last time I learned was two years before that)... After I told him about the jump.

PS my MP3 player broke so sorry about the typing.

When you're starting out at Dirt jumping (That's what I assume you're talking about lol) go for flow instead of complex tricks. A smooth / well done line looks so much nicer than a sketchy line. When you have it going good for you on a certain line then start throwing around some tricks.

Good luck with it, great sport ::'

Edit: Since you asked for a story, me and my friends built a 14 foot drop onto a pretty good landing. The wood we used to build it with looked fine but turned out it was so rotten the inside was nearly hollow. Anyway after watching my friends doing it for about 30 minutes I decided I'd tried it even with a dodgy wrist. Rode up to it, and Karma being the [bleep] she is decided it'd be a perfect moment for the supports to break. Fell 14 foot landing on top of my right shoulder and dodgy wrist, dislocated my shoulder and broke my wrist while getting a mild concussion in the process. Morale of the story, always check the wood to be safe and wear pads. If I wasn't wearing my helmet the doctor said I could've been looking at serious concussion / light brain damage :o

By "trick bikes" I assume you mean BMX. I have a Mongoose "Team Edition" (or something to that effect). I used to ride BMX when ever I could find nice jumps/gaps but I've been into skating since I had a nasty accident while trying to jump a sketchy 5 stair. I didn't have my bike with me so I grabbed my brother's bike. I'd done the jump before and it wasn't too difficult. So I went for it. Did a nice bunny hop and everything was looking good until my foot slipped off the pedal. My foot slid back under my rear leg peg and got slammed hard when I hit (since I land standing and come down to a seated position). Ended up with a minor sprained ankle and a nasty gash in the skin over my shin. Actually, I have an indent to this day where the skin never filled out. Oh and I also popped the tire when I landed.. These days I skate instead. BMX riders tend it eat it a lot worse than skaters plus I have a lot more control over a skateboard than a bike ;)

As for tips.. Practice, practice, practice. Stronger legs, a lighter bike, and more upward thrust should help with bunny hops.

A lot of my good friends are bikers, so it's natural that i would get into it. My best friend has a...well, I'm not sure what to call it, since nothing about it is stock. The frame I believe is a DK General Lee, but everything else is from different places. Cost him over $1,000 but it seems worth it for him.

I can wheelie and bunny hop, and I'm learning to j-hop [it's not the same as a bunny hop. Bunny hop is both tires at the same time going the same height, j-hop is a small manual to a jump. looks like a J when executed, hard to explain really lol]. I've only been stunt biking for 2-3 months, and I use a large mountain bike (26" tires..forget the length of the frame, but it's not small or light), and it's just stock parts...so yeah, I'm quite happy with my progress lol. I'm looking into buying a bmx bike, probably a DK Cincinnati, or possibly a DK Cleveland. The General Lee 24" has caught my eye too, because I feel more comfortable on 24" tires.

Some stories though..hmm..Well, I was riding with my friend who has the 1k general lee, and we were just doing some speed riding and looking for some places to go, and we were talking about something and not paying too much attention to the sidewalk. Well, it goes from straight to a sharp turn then you cross a driveway into the library/county offices, then another sharp turn and more straight..Well, we had just went down a hill, thus gaining more speed. I look up and see him jump the curb at the last second. I was a bit behind, and my brakes were broken and I was going way too fast, so I hit the curb near full speed, and that's when I: broke my mountain bike, got my dads (which had barely been ridden and was in good shape), and became determined to learn a j-hop..

I also remember riding home from school on his dk (he turned for his house on the way to mine, and we rode together after school [him doing tricks, me learning] often, so we usually waited for each other). Well, we had the "bright idea" to ride double on this tiny bike, me pedaling, him riding on the pegs on the back..Well, I'm chugging along as best as I can, and all of a sudden I start to wobble..To make it worse, my shoe got caught between the peg and the pedal, thus throwing us off even more..He half-jumped, half-fell and just ended up ripping part of his pants. I cut my wrist, the skin above my elbow, and 3 different places on/near my knee, all at least quarter-sized wounds. I start limping down the sidewalk and call for a ride, because I couldn't walk. I get home and my arm is burning like crazy, and the front of my right leg is just red and burning like crazy. I hated taking showers for 2-3 days after, still have the scars.

All together I've probably spent more time injured than tricking. But it's so worth it. It's so much fun to just go out and ride. Plus, I see things differently just walking/riding around town. I dont see ditches anymore, I see a potential jump. Plus, learning tricks motivates me to go out riding just for fun and get some exercise and strengthen my knees (I can't really do sports because I have knee problems from past injuries, which sucks because I loved cross-country and lacrosse, and I had shin splints, which doesn't seem to appear in biking).

Edit: For some reason, Dan's Comp is a forbidden site, which kindof sucks because I had links to a few things in there. Oh well, I suppose you can look them up if you want.

I used to BMX all day every day when I was younger 10-15ish? Once I got to High school and took sports alot more seriously BMX sort of faded away. I'm 18 now I still ride since I just graduated but I can't afford to get hurt and lose my baseball scholarship. I've got a DK General Lee, a Haro R2 and a GT Vertigo. I was pretty damned good and still am I suppose. My mom let me and my friends build a trail through my backyard with a really good 6-pack that made me have wrist reconstruction and a '16 vert ramp.

Good times.

I have respect for anyone with the balls to do stunts on bikes or skateboards or whatever.

As for me, my most amazing bike trick was getting rid of the training wheels ::'

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Personally I wouldn't recommend this bike, from what I've heard the parts are pretty weak and the bars bend easy as piss. Saw a guy completely wreck 1 of them at my local park from what most bikes could take, my advice would be to find a job and save up for a much better bike or go to a trusted BMX forum and look for some good second hand deals, I bought my current bike second hand and it's a monster compared to most new bikes at the same price I bought it for.

Nice trick, what kind of bikes do you ride? mtb? rb? dh? or hybrid?

Or maybe you don't ride any more, but I recommend starting up again.

That's why you customize the bike. I haven't read everything in this thread but it seems the people that are riding the DK General Lee are mainly using just the frame and getting the rest of it customized.

I've yet to meet a serious rider who actually uses all the stock parts. Most of my rider friends buy just the frame and customize nearly everything else. That's why anyone serious about doing it should find a sponsor, because it doesn't take long for a bike to end up at $750-1000. Hell, I replaced some things on my mountain bike that I didn't like (new shocks and cranks/pedals, and a different chain).

And by metal bikes, do you mean like the group (metalbikesbmx.com) or something else?

Good news, I was out yesterday with some friends and I learned how to manual. I can't hold it for long (maybe like 5 feet), but it's a good start for a day of practice. One of my friends, towards the end of school managed to manual down the whole parking lot, which was pretty awesome to watch.

I can do all sorts of bike tricks! Such as...

- Taking it out from the Garage

- Putting my foot on the pedal

- Riding it!

- Putting it back in the Garage for another 6 months

Here's my beast (I'm not lending it to anyone):

If you're on a low budget buying a frame and custom parts is pretty much out of the question as it's to expensive. Give me an idea of what you're willing to spend and what money you have available, I'll try and find some good bikes for your price bracket ::'
