Kenshinjapan
What can I do to stop this? I'm not very active, go to sleep around 1:00 AM, and wake up at 10-12. I sleep soundly and haven't waken up in the middle of the night in at least 3 years. I set 4 alarms for 20 minutes apart from each other (starting at 8:00 AM) but they never wake me up. Banging drums loudly, pouring cold water of me, or having an adult jumping on me and nearly suffocating me do not wake me up. I really need to be getting up earlier and I do not know what to do, can someone please help? P.S., I don't know if this will relate to it at all, but I sleep on my stomach and do not remember my dreams. Range_This11
There's no such thing as not remembering your dreams. Everyone dreams and it is a proven fact. The only thing you have to do is tell yourself, "I will remember my dreams tonight" as you're laying in bed before you go to sleep, but that's neither here nor there. How close/loud are these alarms to you? "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder." Kenshinjapan
I never said I didn't dream, I just don't remember them. And the alarms are 2 feet away from me. YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! CLICK HERE!

How close/loud are these alarms to you? It's possible to not remember your dreams but impossible to not dream at all. If none of the things you mentioned work, then I honestly don't know what to say. It sounds like a bigger problem than just sleeping too much. The only thing I can even think of is just going to bed earlier? - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Kenshinjapan
Wouldn't going to bed earlier just make me sleep the same amount of time? I don't see what that would do. YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! CLICK HERE!
tripsis
Wouldn't going to bed earlier just make me sleep the same amount of time? I don't see what that would do. Well this doesn't work for ALL people but sometimes your body adjusts to sleeping to a certain amount of time, rather than waking up at a certain amount of time. So if you go to bed two hours earlier, you'll wake up two hours earlier. Again, this doesn't work for everyone but if everything else fails, it couldn't hurt to try. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
BlueLancer
Read this article: http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/conten ... ct/88/1/26 The nocturnal intervals of high plasma melatonin levels, increasing cortisol levels, low body temperature, and increasing sleepiness were longer in long sleepers than in short sleepers. The maxima in cortisol and sleepiness exhibited a close relationship to habitual wake-up time, which occurred approximately 2.5 h later in long sleepers than in short sleepers. If you belong in the 'long sleepers' biological group, it's *physically* not possible for you to cut down on amount of sleep without physical consequences or tiredness due to a different, deeper sleep process. Some people can get by on 4-7 hours of sleep easy, all their adulthood. To other people that's mental abuse and torture they couldn't endure for many weeks. You can set up an alarm clock, but you really can't fight your biology
Kenshinjapan
The earliest I can get in to bed is 11:00, which means I shouldn't be out until a few minutes after that. Will that affect anything? YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! CLICK HERE!

Range_This11
Like Bluelancer said and I have said on other Insomnia threads, you just have to figure out what your body needs for sleep. If it's good on minimal amounts of sleep, then you're a short sleeper. If you feel tired and mentally fatigued after only 5 hours of sleep, then you're probably a long sleeper. There's nothing wrong with 10 hours of sleep per night. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder." xvillexvalox
That's a lot of sleep to you? It's not uncommon for me to sleep 12-15 hours a "night" over the summer, and I'm not getting worried. (p.s. I'm probably out of whack with my sleep-awake schedule, 12-15 hours sleeping 18-22 awake) Not always though, I correct myself when school starts and then I can do 20 awake 4 asleep. Though what usually helps me wake up easier is going to sleep with a full bladder, you have to pee eventually =p. (try not peeing the last 2 hours of being awake)
silver_wits
Happens to me a lot. you're starting to hibernate. soon, you'll be sleeping for a whole month straight... so you should get a thick layer of blubber on you to last the long long sleep. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: Sorry. but to an extent you are hibernating. how much do you exercise? I know I'm not a very active person. and I need sleep more than usual. then once I start exercising a lot.. it helps. also... it could be that you're not sleeping enough in the first place. also... sleep fatigue is a bad thing. google it. and.. try seeing if you can sleep the whole day through. make sure that if you have an alarm.. you set it once... and wake up and get up as soon as it rings.. you'll be more alert this way. so get a weekend. sleep through 16 hours or more.. whatever you need. then stop your bod from jet-lagging by waking up forcefully at a normal time the next day and going to bed at a normal time. if you're a teenage or near your teenage years.. then it could be a sign of growth. if you're really short.. i suggest you try sleeping some more. also me being short has nothing to do with skipping out on sleep to read harry potter when i was younger. hear that!!! NOTHING!!!!!
xvillexvalox
I don't know if the above post was directed at me but I go running 4 miles (40 minutes) every other day, I eat extremely healthy also. I actually had a blood test a week ago, all my levels are normal except for thyroid related things (hereditary) and iron deficiency (I've had it ever soon I was little, though I've never had any signs of unhealthiness, so I'm not anemic) Every now and then I stay up for 30+ hours to get my schedule back to normal, I end up being nocturnal and sleeping through the day. Ginger_Warrior
I'd see a doctor. From the difficulty you have waking up, I'd say this is more than just a lifestyle thing. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Riku3220
it doesn't seem like its too unhealthy, when you sleep too much do you feel horrible during the day? or are you just late for everything? my advice would be to go to bed around 11 instead of 1 if you're late for things
PizzaMan94
try exercising or working. my brother sleeps for 10+ hours every *night* and all he does is play xbox, play guitar, eat, and sleep. and I sleep anywhere from 6 to 10 hours and during the day i ride dirt bike, i used to lift weights, an recently i've been moving steel and iron for money. and at night i do all my gaming and computer'ing. so keep active and you'll sleep less. or to wake up earlier or on time move your and alarm or two across the room so you have to get up to turn it off. and set them to all go off at the same time. and if you have a Razor for a cell phone, set it to siren and volume 7 (it is extremely loud and annoying - and it won't shut off until you manually turn it off) so yeah, just try moving your alarms or get active during the day. Furah
try setting an alarm for 5 or so minutes earlier from when you normally wake up, but try and get it to be a song if possible, then every week or so put it 5 mins earlier, making sure it's the same song every time, soon you will automatically wake whenever you hear that song (it's what I do, Through The Fire and Flames gets me up no matter what : and when I'm awake it makes me that little bit more awake and alert :D Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. blacksurge
Oh, and if you use a song to wake up, make sure it's not a song you like... Around a year ago I had Love me Do by the beatles as my alarm, and it was one of my favorite songs. Now whenever I hear that harmonica intro I feel like i'm going insane :| Anyways, BBL OFF TO SLEEP WITH A RACCOON
Koo
Well... They say you need around 9 hours of sleep a night. And you're sleeping for 9-11 hours. Not much is wrong there :P And about not being woken up easily... I guess everybody has different levels of how easy it is to wake them up =] You shouldn't be that concerned. ^dds'er in progress =D

Paten
Ok firstly how old are you? Ok I read this in an exam paper, "Teenagers tend to sleep very long, so we decided to do an experiment. Firstly teenagers don't actually get enough sleep as you think they may do the real thing is that their brains are growing!!" I think this MAY be your problem, I don't know. How about trying to sleep earlier??
