Robert_de_Sable
......... That's compatible with a Dell Inspiron 530? I don't care how expensive it is, as long as it's not $500+. [English translation needed]
dsavi
Well, it depends. Do you have any PCI/PCIE slots free?
Robert_de_Sable
Let's go with yes. I think. Also, I don't own the computer yet, I'm buying it from Dell, and stupid Dell doesn't offer great video cards, so.... OldJoe
I saw it has a ATI HD 2400 PRO 128mb, which is fine for older games... RSHD... videos etc. Which indicates it has pci-e on the motherboard (i hope x16 too). I'm sure it is x16, but for your own sake: Contact dell with the following questions about Inspiron 530 - What wattage does the PSU have? Is the pci-e (express) x16? The PSU is probably the one that would need changing if you're putting in a new graphics card. So i'm not going to advice you on one until you know the answers to those questions. dsavi
^Nah. If you're looking for one under 500$, then this one is complete overkill but it'll last you a long time.
Nadril
^Nah. Robert_de_Sable
I really don't know. I do know they'd be graphic-intensive games such as Assassin's Creed. [English translation needed]
Robert_de_Sable
Everyone, thanks so much for your help on my previous topic regarding what video card I should buy. I've narrowed it down to what I think is a very nice card, the GeForce 8800:http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10099849&catid=20397 I spoke to a Dell technician about whether it would be compatible on an Inspiron 530. He said yes, but I want some more opinions. Will it be compatible? If you need more specs on the Inspiron, just ask. Mod Edit: I merged both of your threads, seeing both were about video cards and there was no need for a new one. ~meol [English translation needed]
OldJoe
You could have kept your old thread instead of creating a new one since it was about graphics cards anyways. I've played Assassins Creed (which you said was one of the games you planned to play) on 8600GT with high settings on 1024x768 with no problems. 8800GT is a good card. Similar cards, ATI 3850/3870/4850... Nvidia 8800GS/9500GT/9600GT. These do not perform the same. 4850 is the best one, 9500 is the sucessor to 8600GT and performs about 15-30% better. Just check the prices of these, and if you find something interesting ask again. You might as well go ahead pick a 512mb version just to be a bit more future proof. And if you want to be more future proof in performance and play such games on high resolution with high settings: 8800GS/8800GT/9600GT/HD 3870/HD 4850. I don't know if it the inspiron has pci-e, but hopefully. Otherwise those cards wont work which has pci-e. Sbrideau
Just to say, Bestbuy prices are high. Wait for http://www.newegg.ca to open ;). Also other sites like Tigerdirect of ncix have better prices I heard.
Mamong
I'd look at the ATI 4850. Good speeds at EXCELLENT value at the moment. Checking TigerDirect Canada, the 4850 is only about $210, which was about $30 more than an 8800GT but this card will be much better value. The 4850 challenges the 9800GTX for pace and is a good deal cheaper. [Tip.It Mod][Retired][Add your Steam name here!]

No they aren't. 2x GTX280's, 2x HD4870's and (maybe) 2x HD4850's would all perform better. And once the HD4870x2's are out soon they'll wipe the floor with 9800GX2's. eggzs
Looks like the 530 only has a 300W PSU http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/product ... dhs&~ck=mn while the 4850 needs a recommended 450W PSU

A 600W PSU might be sufficient. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.
