The RS Stereotype

Skully

Recommended Posts

First, there's the RS stereotype that RS is a poor man's WoW, that Runescape is not a real MMO.

And everyone playing MMOs is a no life nerd that needs a girlfriend. :wall:

It's pretty sad

actualy i do have a girlfriend.... when i was in mn. with her at the hotel which has a computer in lobby i would sit there and play rs with her right next to me.... she doesnt play... finds it boring.... but still i have a gf, and i play rs.... i have a job... and i play rs..... and yes i have a life... or at least i think i do lol.... i dont play rs for more than 3-4 bhours though... used to but now it gets boring sometimes.

Dude, you don't understand my post, I'm talking stereotypes, not my opinion. And two other things, one, use better grammar, you know punctuation, capitalization, you know, 2nd grade stuff. Second, I don't need to hear you and this job this girlfriend that, don't try to impress anyone, because it makes you look like a douchebag when you say things like that. We don't need to hear it. I'm not sure you know what the word "stereotype" means.

RuneScape is looked down upon by most people (sometimes for no reason at all). I don't see what's wrong with it, the graphics have been greatly improved, all that's left is the movement.

At most, the only reason anybody should look down upon RS is the movement & command system.

Only fear God,

Know the weapons of the weak,

The weakness of the hard.

But the reason why RS has such a negative stigma even, or should I say especially, in the gaming community is for a variety of reasons. 1. Jagex advertises that this game is for everybody regardless of age. Look at the fascist censor, for example. This leads to people believing that this is a kids game. 2. The amount of grinding contained within. Every MMORPG and almost every RPG has some grinding. But Runescape holds the title for grindiest game of the year for seven years running. 3. The graphics. Oh, I know about the huge update and I admit that Runescape has never looked better. But compared to other modern games? Not so good. And anyone who doesn't play won't know that the graphics have improved. 4. The leveling system. As others have said, the leveling system requires no skill or talent. Just clicking. Click, click, click. 5. Combat. Runescape has one of the worst combat systems I've ever seen. Everything is about preparation and what you bring. Experience and "skill" have minimal jurisdiction. 6. Customer Support, or the lack thereof. Jagex provides us with customer support only slightly better than the IRS and slightly worse than a group of trained chimpanzees. 7. The maturity. Need I go further? And 8., the lack of a free, player governed, market. This may not matter to a lot of people, but to us poindexters, it means a lot.

And that is why RS has a negative stereotype.

I still don't think its the worst game as far as grinding goes. My friend who plays WoW has 2 characters maxed out, and he complains of them making it too easy nowadays, the only time I ever see him on (I use xfire pretty handy if you play online games like CoD or something) is a couple times a week to raid. Graphics wise I agree but what do you expect playing a Java game?

Well, I've never seen or heard of a game that takes as long to max out as Runescape. Not even Disgaea, where the characters could become a level 9999. If you know of any games that do, then show me and I'll gladly withdraw the statement. The graphics, though excellent for Java, are still poor. To the average gamer, it doesn't matter how great the graphics are in comparison to the norm for that software, what matters is how it stacks up compared to other games.

Play silkroad, its soley combat/trader based and I know a guy that has played 2 years of it and still hasn't maxed out. The only time efficient way to level up is to power level in a party.

Ahh, is that so? I've played Runescape since April of 05. And guess what? My skill total has yet to jump past the 1400s. It all depends on how much you play it and someone playing 24/7 on RS will take longer to level than someone playing 24/7 on any other games. The experience needed to level up increases exponentially while the experience received from the training methods rises linearly.

Yes you are probably someone who thinks they are bursting full of knowledge on MMORPG's and have only played 1 mmo......... please don't have me waste my time making another post if you are just going to let the bs spew out of your mouth.

So... instead you insult me? I've played more than one MMORPG, I've also partook in WoW and a little game called Ragnorak Online. I've enjoyed countless RPGs, from Pokemon to Final Fantasy. I also enjoy a little thing called Dungeons and Dragons. Have you heard of it? Plus, I happen to be a video game buff. So please, PLEASE, insult me. Please attempt to flame me to a barbecue me to a crisp cause I'm wearing my varia suit and need a light.
If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

Whoa... That whole post had "Geek" written all over it, I'm not even one to say that to people, but to brag about playing so many MMOs and RPGs.

Just play the game don't discuss it so far as to kill each other over different opinions, this isn't real world debating, just play the game, or in your case play the many games.

think playing RS automatically makes you a "nerd"

It doesn't? since when? Really guys...sometimes you just gotta admit to yourself. You're a nerd and nothing you can do will change it. So instead of making stupid threads about how playing video games doesn't make you a nerd and complaining about what people think, go have fun playing the game.

Whoa... That whole post had "Geek" written all over it

and you play runescape. If you have a problem with "geeks" your in the wrong forums.

You mis-quoted me, you didn't post the quote I was quoting. So please redo your post with more accurate flaming for me :)

Have a nice day.

no i didnt misquote you, i quoted exactly what you said, and I don't feel like wasting my time putting up all that other stuff cause its right there if anyone needs to see it. You claimed his post had geek written all over it because he bragged about playing so many mmo's. At least thats what I took it to mean. If thats not how you intended it then you should redo your post.

Watch out, the trolls have arrive(specifically derrik and 3rkid). So, first you say he doesn't know what he's talking about, and you pretend to be an expert. Then he provides you with an account of his experience. Then you call him a geek, when you were the one who provoked him into telling you what he plays. And then you say people misquote you(well, actually, the other guy did).

To quote a rather famous sailor, with bulging biceps, a squint, and a corncob pipe: "I yam what I yam."

And this whole discussion was about why Runescape has such a negative stereotype. I simply compared Runescape to a few other games to show why it perceived so poorly, particularly by the gaming community. When my knowledge was contested, I simply retorted by displaying my "resume", if you will.

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.
