where's the joy in playing RuneScape now?

Mostly monsterhunting, some mini-games/things that nobody does except me, Slayer, a bit of BH and Dueling versus mates.

 

 

 

Oh and don't forget helping out newbs!

When Pk went the thing that filled the gap was monster hunting. BH didn't really cut it. As long as I was killing something I was happy. Then I started skilling so that's what i've been doing lately. But I can't wait until the PVP updates. \

Skilling can be monotonous. It is only done for the rewards, and some rewards, like a 99, are not worth working too. (IMO)

 

 

 

Although I often try to be able to do everything in a skill, I find that somethings are incredibly not worth it. Especially since the addition of the skill help thing, I have no ambition to ever spend money to get to the level of, say making p++'s.

 

 

 

But compare that to real life: you're grinding if you work at McDonald's - you do so for the money.

Well I know one reason why anyone should stay: PVP ONLY WORLDS.

 

 

 

its not pvp ONLY worlds. its pvp worlds. you can still do anything you could in a normal world. only implies you can only pk

Yeah, it's definitely become a skiller's game. More skills, quests, and minigames fill the void that used to be taken by things like pk'ing, merchanting, and dueling.

There is still dueling, and many mini-games have been released for combat based player e.g: Bounty Hunter, Clan wars and things like barbarian assault, So personally, i don't think Runscape is completely skill based :|

For people who don't really enjoy mindless clicking (non-"skillers"), what's there to enjoy about the game? It really gets tedious spending hours getting those levels. But for what? Just to show it off? I used to enjoy clans, especially clan PKing/wars/etc., but with the wilderness barren, what happened there?

 

 

 

There's also the quests of course. But I find very few enjoyable because most are just tedious tasks done just for the sake of getting it done or for the rewards.

when are people going to realize that the game is not split between wilderness pking and mindless skilling?

 

 

 

There are a ton of mini-games and other activities you can partake in. Don't like any of the mini-games Jagex has laid out? Then use that thing called an imagination and think up your own activities to play, TeT does it practically every other week.

There are still minigames like Catle wars,

 

and Bounty hunter if you want to loose your equipment ;) .

For me the joy in RS lies within three things: The Puzzles, The Planning and The Achievements.

 

The puzzles needs you to think a lot before you do something. It could be a treasure trail, a quest or perhaps a minigame.

 

The Planning I like too, since you also need to think a lot here. How should I do to reach that level I want? Where should I train? And so on.

 

But the thing in RS I get the most joy from is The Achievements. When I have completed a goal of mine I always gets happy with myself and wants to continue.

Have you been on Gears of War multiplayer lately? There are a lot of little kids. I get called a noob almost everyday there whenever I kill them. It's just like RuneScape, these days.

Think about it like this...

 

 

 

2001: RS, not many people a few hardcore people

 

2003: Miniclip, A big increase in the number of poeple, more hardcorers, more skills/quests/more members stuff

 

2003-2007: constant updates, a slighter less increase of people but still hardcorers

 

2007-to date: Actual updates that makes a difference to people, slower increase then before because of updates( RWT)...

 

 

 

but remember this that most people who are playing now are playing because they wanna play runescape not because they want to kill people or to make music videos( yes, i know a few of you remember those)....so its up to you to either keep making new threads asking "what happened?" or "im bored of boring threads so i will just make a thread asking for some more reasons to not play runescape"(:P)....just play it and im preety sure you will find something enjoyable that you havent tried already
