Leaving account for an extended period of time

Featured Replies

I am considering leaving playing RS for quite a long period of time--I cannot play on high definition mode on the computer I usually have access to (a laptop) and my membership has expired, which combined with the lack of HD does not inspire me to play until I have access to a better computer more frequently (with any luck, this should be soon; we are considering building a new computer at the moment and hopefully I can nudge my father in the right direction as far as CPU and GPU are concerned--he always manages to choose pretty mediocre ones :\).

My account will not be purged or deleted or anything due to inactivity, will it? I have a good deal of stuff I would like to keep for when I do start playing again, and having my account purged or removed would be extremely irritating, to say the least.

I'm pretty annoyed at not having access to HD. I suppose I could renew membership on standard detail, but where that seemed okay before it pales in comparison to what I can see of HD from screenshots and so on. The ironic thing is that I can play HL2: Episode Two on this laptop with mid-level settings (which is certainly more taxing than RS)--the graphics card is missing a rasteriser, apparently, which is required for HD-RS.

Runescape isn't more fun with better graphics. You see them once, think 'Oh, that looks good', and then never notice them again.

Anyway, your account wont be deleted when you come back. I've taken a 1,5 year break once, and when I came back everything was still the same.

No.

no accounts are purged as of yet, but i think Jagex has mentioned that something like that might be happening in the future, just log on once a year and you should be good though

Isn't it also possible to lock an account if you're sure you want to take that long of a break?

I started my first account in March of 2004. I check it every so often to and get bored and go back to my current account. Nothing ever changes. Seems that you should be fine, just set all your passwords or even change your passwords from time to time if possible.

I do wonder if Jagex deleted those stupid macro bots from way back when. Those severely corrupted the high scores IMO (and the rest of the game for that matter).

One thing to mention, if you are considering going from P2P to F2P, you might have an overcrowded bank. This has happened to many members in the past. You won't be able to store anything in your bank if you're above the limit. It would probably be best to sell/drop (party room or whatever) members items before returning to the F2P if you wish to continue playing on a F2P world.

Alternatively you could store nearly every F2P item (with a minimum of two each) in your bank before returning to P2P. Just keep in mind that you should never take out 'all' (thank you Jagex for the 'all but one' option!) With this method, you wouldn't have to worry about losing precious items from your bank.

If you do this I recommend checking out this post

Wait, is that just a convenience thing or are excess items (i.e. those items that pass the F2P bank limit) removed from the account, or will they be accessible again once I renew members?
