Problem With My Parents Internet Browser

My parental units are currently having a problem with their browser. Every time they try to load a page, they either get "Error 404" or "Internal Server Error", and they end up having to refresh the page to get onto it. They are using Internet Explorer 7, and when I suggested to use Firefox 3, the problem was gone, but they are reluctant to using it, since it is not related to Microsoft. My question is, why is it doing this, and how can I fix it?

First, if it's a 404 error, they're either typing the address in wrong, or their internet hasn't come on in that instance of time. Second, if it's an error in the 500-Class, then it's on the server's end, not the computer's end.

 

 

 

Third, people will use what they're best familiar with. If they don't want to use Firefox, then you can't bend their arm about it. Of course, their suffering will lead them over to salvation soon enough, so just sit back and wait for them to ask you to install it.

It is not a case of typing in an address wrong. Half the time, they are clicking on links to pages, and it says that. It can also not be an internet problem, as I am using my Laptop, right next to them.

Teach your parents a lesson. Change the theme back, make them use Firefox. They don't know what's good for them.

 

 

 

I would like to say that I did that, but it was my dad who introduced me to FF. And my mom gets really pissed when I try to get her to use it. I really should try something more drastic.

Your sister = scary, dude. She grappled onto FireFox's Capabilities faster than you could say "Monkey's Uncle"... :o (Gggggggaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!) ... I'd say to make it so that only your parents and you can install themes and/or extensions. Your sister (unlike tons of other ladies) appears to be too dangerous. :|

Have you run antispyware/antivirus scans? Also, could you provide us with an HJT log, so we can see if there is anything identifiably wrong? :-s ... (Sounds to me like IE is either impatient, or is not configured right. :-k ...)

That's a bit harsh, dsavi... Yes, 'Ouchy_S' should change back to the default theme. But, 'Ouchy_S' should give them a tutorial. DO NOT drop them into it in some cold manner!!! :shame:

Get her an IE-styled theme for Firefox. :twisted: ... She might not notice the difference. :-w ... It is the best I can suggest. :geek:

I don't think a tutorial is necessary. The UI is nearly exactly the same. And in any case, it needs to be done in the name of progress.

Use an IE theme and if possible, an addon which changes the Mozilla Firefox to Windows Internet Explorer. Firesomething did this, but it doesn't work on version 3. Most likely they won't be able to tell the difference :P

The Internet was like that from day one. The second we got the internet running, we experience problems with it. The computer is a Compaq SR5260AN, if that helps you at all.

No, we each have a profile on that computer (There are four, but I do not use mine). On every profile, the internet does this. It usually happens on You Tube and another site.

I can do that, but I do not want to get in trouble, and they should have the option of using what they want, when they want.
