Defender of Varrock - New Quest Released Today!

Featured Replies

Lets see what i collected here...

1. THe picture is definetly arrav (last set of arrav lores show picture of arrav). No arguements about that

2. He rid himself of the sheild, zemorgal killed him

3.No evidence of arrav's body

4.Dwarfs say that the sheild protects him and thats what zemorgal wants.

My theroy thus far:

[hide=theory]Ok, so What I think is that it could be possible that we may end up having to fight zemorgal and/or arrav. If Arrav (undead) is in the story, we either have to kill him to prevent him from destroying varrock, or, as i see it, use the sheild again. THe sheild first crumbled the undead in varrock, why not crumble arrov. THus it would work the same, and if you were to simply give it to arrav, he would be free of zemorgal's curse any way (and turn to dust.

Fighting Zemorgal would be harder. As a marjarrat, he has incredible powers, including necromancy and possibly the anceint magicks. However if we had the sheild on our side...

Also, the sheild may have lost its enchant ment, so someone has to repair it. Many options here, some can be normal (like thurgo repairing it) or not so normal (use necromancy and bring a dwarf back? IDK, thats out there lol). Who knows? More research later[/hide]

I have to go to reldo and see what i can find.

Good theory.

I would say that, Zemoregal may not use ancient magicks. The reason is because he along with Zamorak defiled Zaros- the god who was responsible for the Ancient Magicks in the first place.

We know that the shield has many powers, most of them unknown. Among one of them was the ability to turn ALL of the undead into dust. Arrav threw the shield in the air and it was caught by one of the elders grandsons. Either that person knew the enchantment for the shield, or something happened to the shield while it was hurled into the sky.

I think this elder, and his grandson need to be explored more closely. There is plenty of information in Arrav's lore.

A very good theory, but you never know what Jagex plans. But it seems likely that something like this, where you have to defend Varrock from an evil enemy, in a quest is likely to come.

Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

ANy one know where there is more info on arrav? I wanna Make a theory b4 quest comes out. Nothing of interest at library, museum, or books.

I think this elder, and his grandson need to be explored more closely. There is plenty of information in Arrav's lore.

Alternatively, it might be linked to the bit where it says:

With that, Zemouregal leapt forwards with a speed that Arrav had never before seen. Though Zemouregal's body was thin, each time he parried a blow Arrav felt a superhuman strength behind it. It was all he could do to defend himself, and Arrav had not the time to think of launching his own attacks. Behind them, in the distance, Avarrocka was falling.

Realising the fate of his people was not entwined in his own fate, Arrav paused. The sorcerer's sword slipped behind his guard and cut deep into Arrav's thigh. Zemouregal laughed all the louder then, and threw his hood back. A skull with burning sockets looked out upon the wasted fields and where his gaze fell there was nothing but death and evil magicks. Arrav looked down upon his shield - unblemished from any blow - and saw the truth of his path.

The shield protects from magic (including necromancy and summoning), as shown from the bit earlier about any of the undead Arrav struck down not getting back up and the flying nightmare summoned thingies being banished when they attacked him, but the shield protected only him, as "the fate of his people was not entwined in his own fate", so when he threw it to the city and the guy caught it, presumably his fate was entwined with them, so his holding it extended its protection to the people, and by extension the city, therefore cancelling out all the magic being deployed against the city. This would mean that Zemouregal couldn't attack them with magic, and as mighty as he no doubt is, hes still probably not strong enough to take on a whole city + army by himself and without magic, hence his buggering off, preumably to wait till something happened to the shield, and he could return to wreak his vengeance. Muahaha etc.

Also, it could be linked to the necromancer attack that has been mentioned in a couple of places, that took place after humans got runes and their own magic, and was easily defeated. This time he will probably be better prepared.

Hail to The Great Big Penguin in the sky. And Guthix, of course.

I might want to ask... why is the Shield of Arrav being held in the museum...?

And- as you have pointed out, some person picked up this shield, but I must mention that this isn't any old person. I'll copy and paste some of the lore, going backwards so I can explain this.

Running back towards the town, he took the edge of the shield into his hand and threw it as a man might throw a stone to skim upon the water. It flew through the air and landed in the midst of the burning buildings. For a moment, nothing seemed to happen. Then, with a sigh, all the dead within the walls crumbled to dust. Fires dulled and the nightmares of the air screamed their last. A few men looked out from behind barricades and the dwarves rose from a crater of bodies to see what had happened. A young man, not more than sixteen, was stood in the street holding the shield.

Arrav recognized the man immediately: it was the grandson of the elder who had spoken to him the night before, a man of honour and compassion.

Then on the seventh night, the eldest of the elders spoke up. He had a dimly remembered memory from his youth of tales of a fabulous shield that did not belong to this world, and that was strong against nearly every attack, but whose whereabouts were unknown. When the other elders heard of this tale they were puzzled, for none of them had ever heard such a tale, and they wondered how the old man could remember such a distant memory so clearly. In truth, the elder himself could not explain how this memory had come to him so clearly while he had slept, yet all agreed that this was the perfect quest to remove Arrav from Avarrocka and protect it from the portent they feared.

Is there a significance to this 16 year old boy?? Let's remember that if he were to be 16 at this time, he would be very old to this day. Also, none of the other elders knew of the Shield of Arrav, so how come this person's grandfather knew? There must be significance with this person. Judging from the timeline, this person should be approximately... 1375 years old.. if he is alive today.

And what about the elder? Did Zemouregal visit his dreams as well and tell him about the shield? If Zemouregal did not visit his dreams, why does he know? What, if anything, is he hiding?

Here is one more thing-

Coupled with the fact that the Imcando stated (as I recall) that the shield should never fall into the wrong hands- ie Zemouregal.

The Imcando chief stepped forward, barely up to Arrav's waist, and explained, 'The spells of this shield shall protect you from any magicks the Mahjarrat can summon. This is why Zemouregal wants it: if he could possess it he could defeat any of his tribe. The Mahjarrat are a solitary and jealous race and always desire to topple each other, to enslave one another. Take this shield with you and Zemouregal shall have no power over you.'

Don't forget, the Mahjarrat fight amongst each other. Here are the many possibilities.

- A vicious battle between Zaros and Zamarokian Mahjarrat, and Zemouregal wants to be on the winning side, thus the Shield of Arrav.

- Zemouregal wants to become a god and kill Zamorak, the Shield of Arrav must be necessary in this.

- Anything else could be possible. Who knows, Arrav himself might want to become a god, kill both Zamorak and Zemouregal, and become a god- leading a new legacy of evil.

Anything could be plausible, but I suspect that something crazy will happen if the shield gets into the hands of a Mahjarrat.

JIrenma, you said a lot of interesting things there, but saying that Arrav wants to become an evil god seems pretty hard to believe =P.

I have no doubt he wants to kill Zemoreagal and Zamorak though. He's currently forced against his will to serve Zemoreagal though.

Of course, that scenario is maybe 1% likely, but we don't know what Arrav's disposition will be, aside that he will be "the fall of Varrock". He could be a slave against his will. But over 1300 years have past.

By the way, I should point out this-

Arrav is most likely in some sort of undead form. Like other undead, he could be mindless. He could be able to reason, an if he is freed, it could lead to a weakness in Zemouregal.

It is the shield that Zemouregal wants. In fact, any one of these Mahjarrats probably want this shield, including Zaros (hes not a Mahjarrat). It's very possible that Zaros, or any one of the Mahjarrat wants to take Zamorak's place because they know that with the shield, they can do that (The shield protects from Ancient Magicks).

But on topic- I know much of this is related, we know that Zemouregal and Arrav will be on their way. We also know that there is plenty of information in RS lore and in game that can lead to clues about what may happen. I don't know if all post bag posts are correct, but there have also been some interesting posts there too.
