My mom currently has cancer.

 

 

 

Her prognosis is good even thought they caught it at stage 3 (breast cancer). She has been doing chemo/radiation for months now, she has surgery at the end of this month.

 

 

 

She is getting her chemo at home every week, but her surgery is at the Mayo Clinic (I think in Minneapolis? Somewhere near there)

My grandma died of cancer.

The doctor found out my mom had cancer, she had surgery seemed good ok, she came home.Few weeks later while iwas at school she told my dad she wasnt feeling good, she collapsed and my dad cought her, and rushd her to hospital. turned out i think the doctor f'ed up so she ended up bleeding into her stomach was 1 of the worst feelings of my life, and then seeing your mom in intensive care looking like she is going to die is scarey, shes ok now, but im sure its painful for alot of people to watch people with cancer die, or get sick

So last year my uncle had cancer, he had to get pretty serious surgery and then he was re diagnosed with it in August. He just had his second surgery and the doctor was unable to get it all out. With the surgery and getting all the cancer the doctor said he could give him 2 more years, but since there is still cancer in him I don't know how much longer he has. I saw him in the hospital a few days ago and I felt terrible and so sad to see him like that. Then I went to his house to mow his lawn today, he was just on the couch watching TV and he sounded so weak and sick, I feel so bad for him but I really don't want him to die.

 

 

 

Does anyone close to you have/had cancer or even worse died from it?

 

My next door neighbor who I've known since I was like three died of pancreatic cancer yesterday. In some ways it was a blessing, as he looked as if he has been in a lot of pain for over a year. There has got to be a flipping cure out there somewhere...

My grandpa was diagnosed with cancer in 1996(?). He died two years later. I never got to meet my grandpa, I was almost 8, and while we were living in Sweden, he was in Asia.

 

 

 

My mother was also diagnosed with breast cancer, but like blingkachi's mom, it was in the very early stages where the cancer was the size of a quarter. They removed the cancer through surgery.

 

My grandfather died of cancer (same type I had), two years before I was born. So I never got to meet him.

My grandad got a lot of his colon / lower intestine removed yesterday as he had a spot that could've been either cancerous or potentially turning cancerous, that's all my parents will tell me. I hope he is ok, but my parent's have never been ones to tell the whole truth in these situations.

Warrior, was it you that had that list of things that made cancer seem sentient? Like it knew that it was an abnormal growth or coordinated attacks on white blood cells or something? That's some creepy stuff right there.

My dad currently has cancer.

 

The prognosis isnt good. He currently has undergone, 5 chemo treatments with limmited/no effects and some spread evident over the time. Started in the windpipe and has spread to the lungs and the lymph glands.

 

 

 

A few other people in my non-immediate family have died from it, one just recently.

 

 

 

Hope your uncle recovers, never loose hope, if you do how can they be expected to keep going?

Well my Aunt died of cancer around 6 years ago I think.

 

 

 

Then my mum pretty much had a terminal brain tumour eventually dieing 3 years ago after fighting it for 2 odd years.

 

 

 

And finally my nan got cancer somewhere but dont really cause we dont see her often.

As for the thread in general, it just goes to show how common cancer is for people. When you consider the stats, cancer is right up there among the leading causes of death in the world. All the more reason to try and find a cure.

My mother had cancer about 10 years ago. It went into remission and came back 4 years ago. After 2 years of chemo and radiation, it's completely gone now. Then, my uncle had a lung removed last month due to lung cancer. My father had minor prostate cancer about 13 years ago, but it wasn't anything serious.

Cancer rates aren't really skyrocketing. More people are getting cancer these days just because people are living longer.

 

 

 

Just wanted to clarify that for some people thinking it's speading like ebola in the jungle. :geek:

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple years ago. Luckily she found it and got it checked in its early stages. Worst thing though was the chemo. She looked so drained after the sessions and had to be wheel chaired to the car a few times. She's fine now apart from the side effects of the cancer meds. Her cancer was hormone dependent so she has to take pills for that which give her temporary osteoporosis. Anyway she is about half way done with that, 2-3 more years to go.

 

 

 

My great aunt wasn't so lucky. She found out about her breast cancer at stage 3. They removed it but it's useless now since the cancer has spread to her lungs and bones. I saw her a couple weeks ago. She looked so terrible. She had lost all her weight and is basically skin and bones and as if that isn't enough the wound left behind by the surgery is constantly oozing. I think the doctors said she had less than a year left. What a painful, slow way to die. :(

I didn't say cancer rates were skyrocketing, only that cancer is one of the leading causes of death.

seeing him allowed me to cope with people dying and realise, everything has to die be it in one way or another, earlier or later :|

My deepest sympathies for anyone who has a family member who suffered or is suffering through cancer, I know what you're going through.

First off, all the best to your uncle.

 

My nan on my mum's side had breast cancer but none of my family ever speak about it for obvious reasons so im guessing it was before i was born. She is now well.

 

More recently, my dads best friend was diagnosed with a form of cancer(cant remember which) and was given very little time to live. He recovered and all seemed well and it happened again. After being in hospital for weeks they found out he was misdiagnosed and hes now alot better.

Luckily, no-one I'm close to has cancer. Hope your uncle gets better. :|
