Retired f2p coming back- question on new armors

Featured Replies

Hey,

I'm just returning to RS-F2P after about a year retired, and I'm amazed at all the new updates we have. I just spent the last hour or so getting the Explorer Ring 3, gosh that brings back the days of questing .. anyhow, I'm drifting off my question.

What I want to know is the best armor for training melee/range/magic (I'm assuming we'll still have a set for each) with all these new aditions?

So far, I'm assuming it's something along the line of this:

Melee:

Head- Rune Full Helmet

Body- Rune Platebody

Legs- Rune Platelegs/Plateskirt

Shield- Rune Kiteshield/Berserker Shield (?)

Weapon- Rune Scimiatr/Rune Battle-axe

Gloves- Rune Gaunlets (sweet ^_^)

Boots- Fighting Boots/Colourful Boots

Ring- Explorer Ring 3

Necklace- Amulet of Power/Amulet of Strength

Cape- Cape

Range:

Head- Green Dragonhide Coif (?)/Coif

Body- Green Dragonhide Body

Legs- Green Dragonhide Chaps

Shield- None

Weapon- Maple Shortbow

Gloves- Green Dragonhide Vambraces

Boots- Fighting Boots/Colourful Boots

Ring- Explorer Ring 3

Necklace- Amulet of Power

Cape- Cape

Magic:

Head- ???

Body- ???

Legs- ???

Shield- ???

Weapon- Staff

Gloves- ???

Boots- Boots

Ring- Explorer Ring 3

Necklace- Amulet of Magic

Cape- Cape

Thanks in advance,

Well, first off I'll warn you that the new armour all degrade over time aside from the gloves, unless otherwise stated when you click "information" at Reggie in the Fist of Guthix mini-game area.

The berserker kiteshield offers enough of an extra bonus to be worth recharging whenever it fully degrades. However, to recharge you would need the specific number of FOG (Fist of Guthix) tokens and recharge with Reggie at the mini-game area. The rune gloves are definitely worth the trouble, as they can only degrade upon death with them, or if you ask Reggie to degrade them. These items can only be sold when fully degraded.

The green d'hide coif is similar, but in my opinion not worth the points. It isn't much better than a regular coif for the accuracy bonus it offers to range, but it does match a bit more nicely with the generic green d'hide set. I personally wouldn't bother with it.

The magic robes do just as they say, as well as degrade. I believe one set increases the effects of binds, and the other occasionally provides with runes that would be used for a magic cast. This would mean that if you were casting wind blast it could possibly use a death rune that is not in your inventory, although you would already need death runes in your inventory to be casting the the first place. I also feel that this armour is not worth the time/cash/tokens it requires.

You have the right idea for the best sets for training methods, so you obviously haven't forgotten much about the F2P aspect of the game. Enjoy where you left off. ::'

Purepure4774 basically covered all of the new items from FoG (fist-of-guthix) but he failed to mention the new Runecrafter Robes from the Great Orb Project mini-game.

They're basically new robes that are twice as good as the old blue robes and about 2 or 3 magic attack points lower than the Ccombat Robes from FoG althought they do not degrade so i prefer them over the Combat Robes. They come in yellow, blue, or green.

Magic:

Head- Y/B/G Runecrafting Hat

Body- Y/B/G Runecrafting Robes

Legs- Y/B/G Runecrafting Robes

Shield- Anti-Dragshield

Weapon- Staff

Gloves- Y/B/G Runcrafting Gloves

Boots- No boots (the Stronghold of Security Boots have -1 Magic)

Ring- Explorer Ring 3

Necklace- Amulet of Magic

Cape- Cape

Yes, I definitely have to agree with the RCing robes. No hassle with having to recharge over and over again. They also have awesome goggles ::'

Essentially, anything from FoG that degrades with use isn't very good for training. The practical use for them would be in a PK scenario where that little extra magic bonus or strength boost could make a difference in the end.

But otherwise, pure and xen made pretty comprehensive posts on your already almost complete knowledge about F2P.

Everything was said, except one thing: Use leather boots for both range and magic. SoS boots give -1 to range and magic so it's only useful for melee.

The rune berserker shield is well worth the trouble getting as it has a nice strength bonus (and it looks a lot better!). The other items I don't have to much experience with.

91% percent of the people polled said they were liers. The other 9% lied to us.

If you don't mind losing it, that is (in pvp). It takes a while to retrieve it, believe me D: *alchs another piece*

BTW the ring adds +1 prayer and magic.

[hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long]2vvq0z4.jpg[/hide]

Runecrafting robes are best if you want to just train nonestop for long periods of time, but combat robes are better If you don't mind recharging every once in a while (druidic takes too long to recharge, and have just as much magic bonus & less defense bonuses). Anyways, you will still get exp in FoG \'

FoG Mage Robes (either sort) require 10 defence, though if you are wearing Rune, that is not an issue.

If you don't want to FoG enough tokens to buy the robes, then buy them uncharged on the exchange, and then just FoG for tokens to charge them, alternativly, the set or parts can be used uncharged with lower stats and no bonus effects.

The Runecrafter Robes have a requirement of 50 runecrafting to obtain.

Mage sets, part sets and compromise sets:

The standard F2P mage robes are really only a 2 piece set (hat and top), you would normally finish the set with harmless pieces like a normal cape, boots and gloves, or possibly the Stronghold of player safety gloves, and leather chaps. For a part set, you could use an uncharged FoG bottom.

FoG robes are a 3 part set: hat, top and bottom, so fill out the rest with harmless (no mage penalty) items. Add the Runecrafter robe gloves if you can.

Runecrafter Robes are a 4 piece set: hat, top, bottom and gloves, and probably the best looking mage kit. Available in 3 colours, though not compelling you to support a particular wizard in GoP. You do not wear your own hat in the GoP minigame, as you are given the one which matches the Wizard you chose or were assigned to.

Mm, Fog stuff doesn't last long enough imo, and the little bonus it gives isn't worth it.

Body- Green Dragonhide Body

Legs- Green Dragonhide Chaps

Magic:

Head- ??? Runecrafter Hat

Body- ??? Runecrafter Body

Fog stuff will do if you do not have Runecrafter (no 50 rc), even at its uncharged form I'm pretty sure it's better than normal blue robes.

Thanks in advance,

Glad I could be of service. And about that bit saying TGoP is as fun as FoG...Don't get your hopes up :?

But the RC robes are definitely worth it. Goggles ftw.

The fighting boots are worth it for the armor instead of normal if your not always safespotting.
