MS Paint suffices but after downloading Graphics Gale I found that better.

Thanks Quer, I owe it to you and everyone elses CC, you've helped me develop my skills, that ball might not mean much to everyone else but it is a big acheivement to me.

im glad i was able to help :D

to the average tip off the old block TIF user it might be peanuts to shade that ball "what the hell is he shading that ball for?" but you sure got some basic shading knowledge from that :D

all you need to work on now (shading wise) is color selection.. give me some time to train on that tho.. O.o

ill figure out for ya.

nice work on that buddha btw.

I realy don't have that much time these days (or months ?) yet consider my door (pm) always open for some help, if you have the patience to wait a bit since i might not check messages every hour :). I'm not the best around but i hope i'd be of some help.

Oh, man, I'm still laughing

Hehe, me too. But anyway, it's better than gloating.....but I know TJ is way to humble to do that. I'd love to help you out, but know that i havent made a pixel sig in a while. Feel free to PM me some questions or add me on MSN ( [email protected] ) if you need help with a small detail or concept.

Basic rules.

1. Starting off, remember KISS. "Keep it simple stupid." Don't try and do a Van Gogh or make a pixel city right form the get go. Start with simple scenes and then begin to develop your skills until you're good enough to add more and more detail.

2. Develop a style of your own starting off. Cartoony, anime-ish, relistic (like The_Jeppoz), blah blah blah...

3. When it comes to characters, try and keep it in proportion. I realize I don't have the best anatomy in my characters, but its alright...if you need a hand wrapped around a sword in your sig, take your hand and hold onto a pen and see how your fingers wrap around it and try and copy off of that.

4. Put some life into your sigs. Make the character doing an action rather than just standing like a cardboard cutout of J-Lo at the gas station. Make it so that when people look at your sig, they could write a story out of your sig.

5. Take constructive criticism to heart, and don't get angry if someone suggests you change something that you really like. They're only trying to help. It frustrates me when people get angry when they don't get "OMG LIKE TOTALLY AWESOME" on a sig that they completed.

Well those are what I think are the basic rules. There may be a few more, but starting off, keep those in mind. Ohh and...

6. Have Fun with it!!! There are so many awesome people who all enjoy pixel art and once you show that you are a nice person, they will start to respect you even more. :)

wow...and i should think you shaded that manualy ? :P

(anyway even if you did  it's a totaly wrong choice, you just made the whole guy look flattened that way, you'd better try to shade according to a realistic light/shadow balance, typical of the thing you'r woking on, following its supposed 3d shape)

True ;)

How do I know which blue's to pic when I'm shading. I always end up using a blue that doesn't look 'shaded' when put next to another blue, and it looks horrible..

You saw the buddha? I applied what I did to that last circle to the shading, and although it was only practise, the guy says im in for a chance of winning.

Well it's very easy to shade if you use an HSL palette instead of a RGB one, cause once you set the desired Hue (base color) and the desired Saturation (a very useful bar to get good skin colors btw), all you need to shade is to play with the L (lightness ?) bar. You can notice different versions of the same color even with a step of "2" but it all depends on what kind of shading you'r after and how many colors you plan to use. It's all up to your taste and some attempts.

Enjoy

TJ its that i know what your talking about but i dont think allot of other people will understand it to

and i think the l stands for Lumnosity.

HSL system is particular fun in Graphics Gale, The photoshop version is worse.

but the Hue is pretty worthless in G-G? the base color is same as the base Saturation. #just happend to start paying attention to those things when writing my tutorials..

yes Altkill i thought it was good tho color selection was something to be desired..

Well orginally the sun was going to be behind the big cloud, which is why it's so...bright? Then I realized suns wern't my thing.

im actually talking about the base color of the character its to orange for my liking.

if your using graphics gale try shoving the S bar (like TJ said) to the left, like TJ said its very good for skin colors.

OK, move the SBar, first I'll see if this guy likes it, you never know...

Got anything else you can tell me to do, you seem to help me improve.
