Looking For A Pixel Artist To Take Me Under Their Wing

Featured Replies

Ok, first thing's first. I really lik graphics, I studied it in GCSE, through unfortunate events I'm unable to do this subject in Sixth Form, damn timetable structure.

That is a pixel I attempted, as you can see, it's pretty basic, but I'd like to think I have a bit of talent. I have looked at tutorials but they don't really help me. I would like to ask a good pixel artist to 'take me under their wing', teach me th tricks of the trade. In return you will have the satifaction of being a good tutor. I won't open a shop or anything like that, I don't want to make moeny from it, granted, if someone asked me to make a sig, I would, and I may enter competitions to work on my art.

I've got a couple of months before I start Sixth Form, so I would like to get a bit of pixelling into me bfore I start, so I can spend rainy days in an I.T room making a masterpiece.

I'm sorry I cannot pay, if people do ask me for a sig and you help out I'll hand over most of the cash, like I said, I ant to develop a skill, not make money, so, any offers.

Oh well, at least I asked.

I realy don't have that much time these days (or months ?) yet consider my door (pm) always open for some help, if you have the patience to wait a bit since i might not check messages every hour :). I'm not the best around but i hope i'd be of some help.

Thanks for that, while I have pixelers attentions, anyon know a good site to get me started pixelling?

Feel free to add me on msn or something or pm me if you need help.

i never mind an extra student.

however dont be surprised if my answer by pm is delayed a day.. im not on the comp to much.. however msn pretty much always on (not behind it but its on anyway :P, my real life friends always ask if im there first instead of hey)

But TJ is a good choice as mentor if you ask me, i pretty much learned allot by listening to TJ and DH's C/C on stuff and putting it into practice.

no he is right... close to... but not the best, there are many pixelors better than even the Jeppoz a very small % but they do exist... take zilben for example... (he is dabatebaly better, but it is all about personal oppinion, with skill coming second...)

although yes TJ is a very very well established talented artisian artist :D

After taking Quer Skull's abic about shading a circle, after many atempts at drawing a circle, I cant even shade it, am I having a mental block?

This reinforces it, I need a tutor, someone to slap me and show me several ways to pixel, starting off simple, getting more complex.

No your just having some beginners trouble it happend to the best of us.

hell if i showed you my first work i think you might even get noxious.

sphere.jpg

try to copy the shading on this sphere.

play around with the colors and depth.. and ooh high lights :P '

keep trying till you get some pretty good results.. if you ask me this is the fastest way to getting good.

as you'll build up a feel for depth and shape the moste important things in shading.

and if you do some extra color practice.. you might even get good at color schemes.

ok im still learning, but if i gave you line work (since thats probably my biggest thing to work on) do you think you would want to shade it? the way i see it, its helping both of us with practice. and who knows, we may even be able to make some money after a while?

not much of a background person as you can see :P

Random:Oh my you have talent! Your characters are expertly shaded. The lineart, everything!(The middle one isnt as good as the other two) Also, please not we have an anti-gore rule on these forums (for the kiddies).

Your right, your not a background person, you and me both buddy. Your like a slightly less developed me.

I think, to improve your characters (the only thing I know how to do) you should stray away from runescape gfx looking armour, and come up with your own designs. If you look, most of RS armour is quite implausible.(Like the platelegs) When you start to customize your armour, you'll progress alot farther, without being restriced. PM me if you ever need character art help.

(PS: Do you have trouble with faces as well?)

heh... the faces is simply a dot for the eyes and a line for the mouth... that's about it :P

Heh. I also hate backgrounds... and since I go for a cartooney style, it makes me sigs look somewhat bad.

I should try colabing with Max again. His backgrounds are somewhat better than mine.

I'm glad your becoming more active TJ, it's good for the community.

Ignore the circle in the previous post, I think I'm on to something, taking a break but I may be online later and finish it.

BTW, Godslayer, I agree, the Runescape armour is terrible. :x

well the circle's got a pretty good base but the dark colors around it are pretty bad..

you did highlight very-very-very good tho "insert clapping emoticon here"

look thats how its supossed to be (sorry for my mess-ness)

to who are you directing that line-art thingy?

  • Author

The lineart thing is direct to anyone, but Alexraider in paticular, I'm trying to shade a circle using a diferent method atm, I'll try and finish soon.

EDIT: Here is my second circle, I tried pixeling the darkest areas first, and working from there, this is what I got, I think if I put that and th circle I made earlier together then it will be better.

I have never done a pixel in my life, but if you think it would help I could sit in judgment over yours and tell ya what to do :)
