New Question

Does TipIt have any guidelines on people editing there posts in the Help & Advice forum to ask a totally different question?

Personally I don't like this behavior as it makes previous posts make no sense, especially if you are searching or using "view my posts" feature.

It's probably discouraged.

Regardless of what Tip.It has on it, editing the main post is just ridiculous in hoping for another answer, especially if you have 4 replies already answering the first question.

They are better off making another topic, or posting to their own topic. It really doesn't make sense why someone would go abut asking another question this way.

I also have to agree.

One of my biggest peeves is that people fail to have common sense and just put those hide tags on their original post data, after which they could add their new question... They really should never go wiping out what the first 'n' posts answered. <.<

Maybe we could ask the Admins to put up a Global Announcement in regard to this? :-s

A global announcement isn't needed. It's not a huge problem, just something that might irritate the odd person.
Even if it were a huge problem, an announcement in that one board would be sufficient.
The reason I was hoping for a Global, is that it is happening in MORE than just one board. Go look at T&C, and maybe a few in others, if you wish to have a good idea of what I'm talking about. Maybe I just have bad luck for running into these, but they are definitely an issue that needs to be stopped. :-k

That's not really needed.

Really this isn't a massive problem in the first place.

Then I must have the worst luck (at least, that's what I figure...) in the world??? :ohnoes:

An easy fix would be to make topic titles non-editable. However this would obviously mean more work for moderators to change titles on certain posts.
That would not be as great as you think, and would put too much strain on Moderators. -.-

TBH, what would be much better is to have some form of Forum Modification that would keep at least one or two 'backup versions' of the opening post. Obviously, Mods/Admins would then have the ability to revert opening posts to those backup states, and leave a warning in the violator's private message box, should it be necessary to combat such a problem as this. :geek:

A forum backup of each original post would just be a waste of server space.

We like to keep the ability for people to edit the forum title, I think without that option would be more work for the moderators.

That's completely unworkable in BlogScape too.

I think the fact of the matter is, you know not to do it, I know not to do it, Pyro knows not to do it, and everyone who's been on the forums for more than six months knows not to do it.

It's generally people who aren't used to being in a forum community who do it. They'll do it once, they'll get a bad response, and they'll learn not to do it again.

It's like how everyone's calling for a rule against bad grammar. Totally pointless. People learn not to use it as they go along.

Agree with Ginger_Warrior also I do not feel this a huge problem I cruise the boards daily and I may see 1 or 2. " Mostly " our newer users are doing it give them time to learn I am sure our older users will set them straight hopefully in a nice way.
