An emote worth adding? (Also, suggest more here!)

To be honest, there's nothing even stopping you from using the emotes. If people felt a compulsive desire to use different emoticons to those provided by the forum they would just go do it themselves without Tip.It's help. There's enough sets out there...
One of the core reasons I started this thread was the thought of adding something fresh to Tip.It Forums' current répertoire, as opposed to forcing people to fend for themselves. Sure, there are sets out there, but wouldn't it be better to make them open to everyone through BBCode items, than to make every single person have to dig for it seperately? Also, wouldn't it be better to have the community's influence (even if they are picks from other's creations that aren't part of a set) showing in them, than to leave it to being something out of a stock bucket? ::'

You're presuming there's even a small amount of discontent with the forum's current "répertoire". The vast, vast, vast majority of users are perfectly happy with the ones we have already. As said, those very few who aren't could just go find other emotes themselves, but that hardly justifies spending even more of the technical team's valuable volunteered time on something which would be used by about a dozen people.

This firmly goes into the tray labelled "Would be nice, but not necessary and wastes more time than it merits", although I'll confess that would be one long label.

Cool down, Ginger... I've thought ahead... Read on to understand..........................

Are you sure? It might just be that too many are too scared for one reason or another to speak up, therefore leaving you to believe they are content when they aren't... Have you noticed how only about a microfraction sampling of TIF users (and even at that, most of the heavier regulars) ever drops into a given thread in 'Forum U&S' to discuss these things? :-s

Ginger, did I say that this should happen immediately? NO. In fact, I quite intended that, IF this suggestion thread's best (and therefore most agreed) options was accepted by the Admins, and they did say they would put them in, that it would only occur when the Admins were totally stuck at a stand-still (due only to the tasks themselves, and NOT 'irl issues'...) on everything else, and therefore wanted something easy to do.

Would it really waste more time than it takes/merits? It is as simple as uploading the data, bringing it into phpBB3's view of available emotes, and tapping in a few easy 'text codes' for how to call them. Again, this would only be done in their spare 'spare' time, and no more than that. And if they didn't get that time for a while, I'd understand very perfectly. For that matter, this thread I started is only still in the suggestion/compilation stages anyway, and is going to ultimately leave understanding inherently as to how much of a process that the Tip.It Staff themselves has to go to for something to come out as good as it does, as well as the quality they require before they will do it and it happens. :geek:

I agree with the PHPBB2 smilies, they look a ton better than the weird and oddly shaped PHPBB3 ones.

I would also want to remove :twss:, the cesspool of the emotes.

Took me a month to find, but here's another one!

Emote: facepalm4.gif

Good for those doing 'facepalms', eh? Heck, "" would be a suitable BBCode to attach on this one... Although, I guess Tip.It Staff may possibly have to talk with the person hosting it before they'd use it, huh? :?

I rememeber when you used that one.
Me too... I've got it in my "View your posts" history. ....... Anywho, I think we can both agree that small and nifty (Yes, I said "nifty"... I will facepalm facepalm4.gif if you don't know what the word means.) emote would be better than having to deal with this...

[hide=Oversize FacePalm Image, Click To View...]facepalm.jpg[/hide] ... and the suffering from scrolling that it brings... Would you agree? :)

If a user posts things like than simply report it as it's spam...

<*facepalms*> facepalm4.gif

DarkDude, this one wouldn't be for something that's spam... In fact, if you have a look at the "CountDown From 15K" thread in the last three pages or so, you may see that there is valid use for such an emote, and not just simply for Forum Games. ;)

Imagine for a moment... You post something in an area other than the Forum Games one, and someone totally misinterprets you. Well, you look at that post above you, and you can tell it is not spam, but you're having that 'facepalm'-style reaction to it. This is where that emote would come in handy, as you could convey your thoughts much more clearly than you could with something like the "D'oh!" emote... An emote, that in my opinion, is really meant for times when someone messes up and is correcting their self and/or making note that they understand they goofed. TBH, I would hope that someone other than me can see a clear and concise difference between a "facepalm"-type and a "D'oh!"-type situation. :|

I just realized... My reply post to you here is a perfect example of what I'm talking about... :geek:
