An emote worth adding? (Also, suggest more here!)

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone...

While reading through the forums earlier today, I tripped over this nifty emote image which user 'Denismage' (whom I thank for causing me to have this idea in the first place!!!) happened to use...

shok.gif

(Image URL: http://www.di-rs.com/forums/style_emoticons/dark/shok.gif)

...and thought, "Now that is something we should add to Tip.It's set of emotes.", as it describes a feeling that (in my opinion) none of the other emotes we currently have happen to describe. So, I wonder what the rest of you think of it? Would you like to have this, too? :)

Also, as to the 2nd half of my thread title... It hit me, "Why not leave it open for others to suggest an emote they think is worth adding?" :-k ... To which I then thought, "Yes, that would be a good idea, as it would spur more paths of discussion, and comparison arguments, which would make sure only the best options got added to the forums." ... So, I'm leaving open the option for anyone else with an idea for an emote to add to suggest it here. SUGGEST AWAY!!!!!!! 8-)

Aren't they technically called "emoticons"?
Possibly. I just went with the first word I could think of. #-o

BTW, here's another one, special for all those who give 'virtual cookies' to others around the forums...

... and yes, it would need a little shrinking before usage on these forums... But what do you think? Would it be good? :D

Why can't we make our own? We have enough talent here to make some.
If you wish to make some, go for it, and bring them back with you to this thread to suggest adding them to the forums. I am simply picking ones on the web because I lack the ability at this time, in part due to a brain that's having a little "artist's block" in trying to think up stuff.

We already have a shocked face :o
But, that one takes on more of a "What?!?!?" or "Uhhhhh..." persona... While the one I started this thread with is more of a 'about to turn into a nervous wreck' "Ggggaaaahhhh!!!!!" persona, far different from what the one we already have depicts. :|

I like the twitching eye emote.. I have it on msn.. and use it pretty regularly... Not shock.. haha..

I think its best not to have a cookie on here.. While I'm sure it would probably get some use.. I like the imaginative images folks come up with to offer virtual cookies more than I would an emote that can just lazily be dropped into a post.

No one needs to get their ass on their shoulders about this

I think there's also a case of users claiming staff are being biased for choosing one emoticon over another...pretty sure that was the main reason for not having them.

Thank you for dropping in... Here's some quick thoughts to answer your reservations. :)

As I said in my earlier posts, I have invited discussion over each one that is displayed, such that there may be a quorum of users who ultimately wish to have one emote or another. This, logically, would therefore certify the emotes' validity to Tip.It Staff to be added to the Forum's options, as there would be both reasonable want and use. :geek:

Just your usage of that emote proves what I just said up above in this post. You may not want it yourself, but for all that anyone can know, there may be a large enough group who would want something like that particular one. 8-)

As for this.....................

the amount of :twss: spam is enough.

Cookie would cause mass internet breakdown.

:twss: I have no idea what you are talking about. I can work on some animated ones tonight DV. Give me examples of something you would like to see.
While I'm probably not going to come up with all the ideas, things like 'magic hats', 'ranged weaponry', and 'PvP' come to mind. Also, stuff like 'theiving', 'ninjas', and 'farming' would be interesting options to add to the selection, seeing as there are both fighters and skillers in RuneScape...

I think we should work on making phpBB3 versions of the phpbb2 emoticons we have left. In fact, I found a pack of just that.

And then lost it. :wall:

Find it. Now. Please. I beg you.

I'm an administrator of an old phpBB2 forum. Maybe I can download them, upload them to my Photobucket account & then post them here so that they can be added one by one?

EDIT: The one that is different is basically this one: icon_lol.gif

cant we just stick with PHPBB2 smilies? i HATE PHPBB3 smiles :-#

they dont look like smilies at all, and well... :) just scares me. ;) looks like a very strained wink that's painful to give, and :o is just....a square mouth...

and can you imagine <3: in phpbb3? :ohnoes:

The only ones i like are :ugeek: :geek:

The corners of phpbb3 smilies are waay to obvious, and make the base look like a messed up pentagon and in doing so, look damn scary and awful.

 and this

Please do keep in mind, everyone, that I meant this thread to only be as a suggestion to expand the current répertoire of emoticons. Never to take away or overwrite any. In fact, I would agree with those who want some of the phpBB2 ones to return, but I would rather that they were added alongside the phpBB3 counterparts, even if that meant setting up a new grid of emote codes.

Onward with the discussion and thoughts!!!

Even better idea...we get rid of all PHPBB3 smilies except for  :ugeek: :geek: :? , and we replace the remaining PHPBB3 ones with PHPBB2 ones. How does that sound?

Btw, will it be possible to change the shortcut key for :x from

:x

to

:anger:

? quite a few people are using : x to show they are being quiet/shy. and not because they're angry

Awful, to be honest.
I'll second what dsavi said, and point to my last post in this thread for further reasoning. :ugeek:

To be honest, there's nothing even stopping you from using the emotes. If people felt a compulsive desire to use different emoticons to those provided by the forum they would just go do it themselves without Tip.It's help. There's enough sets out there...
