Sometimes jagex just goes overboard

Alright so Ive been studying the system of which jagex uses responding to appeals, and it seems that they dont have humans respond to your requests, they simply take in mass appeals, and have a bot reply to them, or have a person pick from a series of different replies to send.

Ive done 2 appologies, sure enough I got the same response, which is expected, but then Ive done two appeals which were both denied with thee exact same messages, for different rules too.

First appeal : 5 black marks, 7 day mute - Password scamming "Offering free membership". Sure enough my generousity got me a 7 day mute, when I ringed the 1-900 number and gave my friend a pin number for free to congradulate his 99 cooking.

Second appeal: 0.4 black marks, 7 day mute - Racism "Saying obama is going to get assasinated". I have so much to say about this, it's not even funny, but alls I'm going to say is theres already been 2 attemps and I was not being racist.

I say jagex just doesnt care about us, only the money they make.

OT: Yeah Jagex no longer has Customer Service in my opinion. Personally, I don't exactly blame them, think of thousands upon thousands of appeals they get per day that are BS, how are they supposed to know genuine ones. Also, they probably have very little staff compared to the amount of appeals they get. The amount of money they would have to spend to get a full time customer staff always reading appeals would be tremendous.

EDIT: 300th post \'

Your first blackmark: Obvious. If you say offering free membership in public, you can bet your going to get some black marks. Second one: not carefully read by Jagex. Then again, I'm surprised a human can even glance over each of them; have you considered the million + reports they get per day, and the fact that their entire staff barely numbers over 100?

As for the people part, most companies are interested in making money, not making friends with the people that buy their products. So yes, Jagex is more interested in money then people. Just like every other for-profit company out there. Why is this always used as an 'insult' against them? Guess what, Menards is more interested in making money off you then being your best friend!

Yeah, and they were both before he even won the election.

I see that they can't check over every single message, but what's the point of having a way to appeal then? It's not like it makes much a difference. Do they even check over appeals for permanently muted or banned accounts? What if you got permanently muted for simply swearing, and already had blackmarks. Will they reconsider some of the other blackmarks.

But oh yeah, theres no way to get in touch with jagex, no phone line, no email, you cant send them a message any way whatsoever..

Fist appeal: It's against the rules to pay for someone else's membership, unless they're in your own household. You broke a rule, you got punished.

Second Appeal: Umm, I wasn't aware Jagex went specifically into rules. That's not racist, but it is highly offensive, especially considering you're referring to someone who has already received over 500 death threats over the past year or so.

I say jagex just doesnt care about us, only the money they make.

I say you need to grow up, stop making stupid comments that get you in trouble, and read the rules.

Oh noes! Stop punishing us for breaking rules Jagex, it's not fair!

Get over it. You broke the rules, you get punished accordingly. I wonder if Jagex actually does a good job with rule breakers and it's just that people who get black marks/mutes/bannages try to get around the system in any way possible. :shame:

Well I guess you could always hop on a plane (Or car depending on where you live), and then show up at their doorstep. But that might be pushing it, as it is just a game lol.

Jagex cannot be expected to thoroughly read every single appeal they receive. They just physically cannot do it.

They have a system in place to be as fair as possible, and will probably give more consideration to those people who have been permanently banned, as that matters a lot more than a mute.

Simply put, if you put yourself in a situation where you can be reported and muted, why should they really give your appeal a further look?

You have to be of a certain age to play this game, and it is assumed (perhaps wrongly in some cases) that people playing it have some common sense.

I have been playing a good few years now and have never once had a black mark, or warning or anything else, as I'm sure is the same for the vast majority of players. If you avoid saying certain things then you cannot get into trouble.

Can you imagine the sheer amount of appeals and comments that Jagex have to deal with?

Customer Service will suffer the more the company grows and the more people who are using the game, it's just life. Deal with it.

Jagex= fools when it comes to appeals\bans.

If you're stupid enough to break rules that are startlingly obvious, then I pray you get permanantly banned so we lose one less brainless person from the game.

Y'know, it really annoys me when people make sweeping derogatory statements against Jagex that don't even make sense (them having no common sense, or caring more about money then customers) as a 'reply' to a rant. Fools? I think not, given the very good accuracy and number of reports that come in. The OP obviously broke a rule, and was duly punished for it. That would make Jagex smart, considering the tiny number of staff vs. number of reports being sent in.

But even a broken clock is right twice a day. In other words, given Jagex's tendency to punish people for offenses they did not commit, or for things that are in no way against the rules as outlined on the Runescape website, like mentioning "Youtube" or "Google", then of course they're going to catch the vast majority of rule breakers.
If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

[/hide] I think this is a little more likely than 'guess and check' they don't have a tendency to punish people who didn't do anything (not saying that it hasn't happened), most people who get punished deserved it. And if anything, Jagex is FAR to lenient on offenders. If it were up to me, I would permanently ban everyone on their first offense simply for not understanding the rules which you are supposed to read upon sign up.

As for there being no way to contact Jagex any longer, I'm going to have to say they were tired of it. Imagine: dealing with literaly millions of brain-dead, stupid-[wagon] kids who can't type whole words complaining that they were punished for breaking a rule, or that they don't like some update, or they thought they were being cute by writing a pointless message, or they wet themselves. I wouldn't put up with that for a day, much less years.

Tendency to punish players for crimes they did not commit? Out of the 130 million accounts, I don't see many being unfairly punished - certainly not this one. They outline their rules clearly and fairly, and follow them. Mentioning youtube won't get you banned; giving a specific web address to a youtube video will. Does anyone read the report forum any more? Besides the fact that there is a sticky for stuff like this, the fact that, oh, once every month we see someone complaining about being (usually fairly) banned\muted indicates that they are doing quite a good job, considering the maybe 20 employees in reports vs. the 6 million active accounts.

Umm.. what is wrong with some people? These are the facts as I see them (please correct me if I'm wrong)

1. OP breaks two rules

2. OP gets punished for breaking said rules

3. OP appeals and gets turned down because he broke said rules

4. OP complains that his appeals were turned down because he broke.. etc.

5. Other posters complain that Jagex punish people for crimes they did not commit and agree with OP who broke...etc

and I thought the RSOF was bad.

*EDIT* and to top it all people complain that businesses are out to make money!! Duh, and bears prefer wooded areas to defecate. *EDIT*

Happy to discuss

Be fair. Admittedly it's a rant about being banned/muted etc, but with an point - I.E, making a criticism about the customer service.

The fact that many of us disagree with these comments is fair enough. At the end of it though everyone's entitled to their opinion.

I personally have made my views clear; that Jagex do what they can and that rules are NOT there to be broken.

However, others clearly have a different view and feel that they are unfairly treated by jagex. Note that most of these people are ones who have been 'punished' or have had black marks. I may feel differently had i been 'unfairly' punished, but i have never put myself in the position to be reported for any offence, as I try to play the game in a calm and pleasant manner.

Yea, I know what you mean. I would get replies back to inquiries I had with automated respones. Although I do have to say that I got a permanant ban once for allegedly trying to steal passwords (I was actually telling a story about people trying to scam other people, but some guy thought I was seeking passwords and sent in a false report that Jagex didn't think was so false), but after appealing it, I got it reduced to a 3 day ban and 7.5 black marks. With each response I got back didn't seem to be an automatic response, although that was almost 3 years ago and I haven't had to appeal anything since then.

What? #-o

Yes, Jagex seems to use a template for responses; obviously they couldn't proivde a hand-written answer to each and every report sent in. And they only get the last 30 seconds of your talk, so if you said:

i remember when someone tried to scam me

he was like

hey dude whats ur password

i can mak u a member for free

just give it to me i promise i wont scam you

Someone walks by, sees that, sends the report. Jagex doesn't see the first two lines. Think about it from their point of view. That's kind of a flaw in the report system, but the more Jagex has to read per report the fewer they can handle personally; a decent balance would be best.
