Over the (very) long run, couldn't controlled be slightly slower?

Because 4/3 = 1.333 recurring

This means 3 x 1.333 will equal 3.999

So over millions of exp, you could lose out on a tiny (perhaps insignificant) amount of exp...

Im not sure whether or not this works on runescape, as on a calculator, 1.333 x will equal 3.999, BUT

4/3 will equal 1.333, but you will find if you then multiply that by 4 again it will go back to 4, not 3.999

I strongly doubt it. You lose out a tiny fraction in your calculations due to limited number of significant figures in your calculator. I suspect that Jagex probably keeps it as 4/3 instead of worrying about a tiny decimal point. Besides, if you watch the numbers go up as you kill stuff, you don't drop a random point or two here or there.

I would get 85 attack and 85 defense before training strength. Strength is worthless at higher levels, all that matters is that you can take a hit and also hit the enemy constantly. By training strength all you do is increase your max hit. Big deal, it takes like what, 3 levels on average to gain an extra damage for your max hit? Psh. So what if you can hit a 40 and I only hit a 36? Doesn't matter if you hit higher than me if I'm hitting 25% more often than you.

That is so ignorant. Strength is the most important melee stat for general purpose combat. It's been proven.

I do agree.

Where has it been proven, from my experience being a low str player it seems un-needed.

Anyway, techincally speaking, controlled will be faster as youl have the added accuracy and str bonus of defender or shield ontop of the whip training, may sound insignificant but in the end techically it will be quicker.

Even technically speaking we really have no idea which way is actually faster unless a whole lot of people are willing to test it out. People who argue that controlled is better say that the bonus from the defender makes training faster. Whille the people that dont train controlled claim that after gaining levels your accuracy is increased and hence makes training faster. Unless we have detailed knowledge of the formulae that Jagex uses we have no idea which method is better. The only thing thats wrong is the people pointing out that a certain combat skill is useless when they all serve a purpose and are equally important.

Miner is completely right, Strength is probably the most over rated combat skill out of all of them. It doesn't matter if you can hit high if you can't hit them at all, or they hit you more often. It's way more combat effective to be able to hit faster although lower than your opponent and to get hit less often than to not hit as often, a lot higher, and to take damage more often.

Look at it this way.

Player#1: stats are 80 attack - 90 strength - 75 defence.

VS.

Player#2: stats are 90 attack - 75 strength - 80 defence.

Odds are Player#2 is going to kick Player#1's [wagon] into the next PVP world.

You forgot Player #3: stats are 90 attack - 90 strength - 90 defence. He's gonna whup 'em both. :P

Yeah, that's sad but true. I subscribe to the controlled school of thought, myself. Especially in cases like this when there's only a couple levels. The difference in strength and attack when training defence last is obviously going to be smaller than the difference from not using a defender for the strength training when you're only talking two attack levels.

Whip on controlled. Some people argue that the extra strength levels (say 10) would help a lot in gaining the attack and strength later, but they forget that you have 7 levels on attack, defense, and strength.

You probably don't know what I'm talking about... basically, just go Whip on controlled. I don't see how it's slow, you gain 3 levels at a time!

I'm using dragon scim for strength ( :wall: ) (LOL spent money on 70 prayer + 68 summon banked), being my fav skill I think that is makes things more fun *IMO*.. I like to hit harder then hit that *slight* bit better / Last bit longer. I find with prayer/super def pot, my defence lvl holds up ok (given I have worked my stats off of a rsc mind set.

IMO, it is str>att>def for more enjoyment for myself, though equal str/att >def I gather is good in todays runescape.

All in all, after that pointless speach;

Do you prefer to see xp off one skill going quicker or off 3 but at a much slower rate? Ask your self this, and you shall find the answer. For my self, it's one at a time.
