"Clan Chat"?

Naruto_1001

Recommended Posts

Dear Tipiters,

Everyone is able to create a "Clan Chat", however, it's not a Clan Chat, and I'll explain why. This "Clan Chat" is in fact a Personal Chat because it's your own chat, it's connected to your account, friends list & ignore list and is only controllable being logged in to the account of which it belongs to. I've never seen a discussion about this, so thats why i've started this topic.

My idea about a Clan Chat is a chat that's not connected to any account, which you can edit by using the account of one the leaders and that has its own friends & black list. I've seen more clan leaders making noob accounts to disconnect it from there own account, something that shouldn't be needed in the first place.

Thanks for reading,

I don't see why you'd want to do that. You can control more than one clan chat at a time, practically. Just make one of your own, and on another account, give your other account power to kick in its chat. I don't see why you don't want to have one person own it. I thought leaders were for the good of dictatorship and inflated egos? Why make clan chats shared?

Seriously though, the clan chat should be controlled by one person. The only good of it is ranks, thus lootshare, coinshare, and kicking. If you give permission to other people to mess with the ranks, they could mess around while you're not there. If the owner of the clan chat is abusing their (oh so immense and intimidating) power and kicking and deranking people, go to a new clan chat.

Allowing access to the controls of someone else's clan chat would be a lot of programming with not much reward, and potential confusion.

I have moved this to suggestions.

Also, I think you make a good point, if someone could actually create a clan in Runescape by talking to an NPC or something and that clan would then be able to create a clan chat that would solve the problem.

Uhm it wouldn't be too hard to actually program: not more difficult than it is for multiple people to open the same shop-window.

I'm greatly in favour of this: mostly in better organized clans the "leader" doesn't come online very often anymore. (Heck the better clans I've seen often have a leader who's retired from runescape). And they're ruled by a bigger "group" of people. Here being able to rank is a great annoyance since only the leader can do it. Clan chat only works really good in a dictatorial setup, and a set-up where 1 person is there 100% of the time: in short-living clans where everything revolves around this dictator!

If you want to have a slightly different setup it's very, very hard to create! (you've got to work with multiple clan-chats etc..

So a big PLUS from me! - Only 1 question rests: why didn't they do it that way from the start? They could've just copied (a modified version of) pjirc (which is a java applet to access the IRC-protocol) to allow clan chat. And have all the additional benefits of IRC (not relying on logging in to runescape, much faster, more options, better banning/kicking, better rank control availability of bots to actually CHECK things.. (Like I did in my old clan chat channel: it would check if a person was registered to the forums before giving him access in the channel).. Just why didn't JAGEX do it?

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I'll support this too... Beyond that, everything else I might have said, has been said. 8-)

I've made a first image of how it should be, any suggestions?

The Clan Details page is filled with details like the clan name but also it's requirements and stuff. The Chat Setup page has kinda the same options like the current Clan Chat options but has got a auto login to the Clan's Chat option available. Invitation System contains ofcourse a invitation system, but also contains the messages who have been send by people who like to join the clan, one click on the accept button would be enough to add him to the clan. Clan Members & Black List are the same as our Friends & Ignore lists.

How about limits (max amount of players that can join the clan or something).

Will there come a highscores of clans?

Won't there come one big amount of spam of noobs that want to join top clans?

Like I said, the Clan Members & Black List work just as the current Friends & Ignore List, also the maximum of 100 people apply's here for a non member account and 200 for a member account. Im currently already going a bit further then I intended to go, there should be a Clan Hiscores but I'm not going to put it in this suggestions topic. You can only apply for a clan you meet the requirements for, there probably won't be any spam at all, maybe just an apply from someone that isnt active after he applyed but thats nothing different from the current method right?

As soon as there are requirements then that will stop a lot indeed.

What if peoples start a clan with a offensive name or a name that links to a website, will those names also appear in the highscores?

What about a skillerclan, can clans also ask requirements for totallvl, combat, membership or even mining lvls or something?

Or even a maxlvl? (max cb 5 or something)

What about clans with more then 100 persons? Are they just limited?

What about clans that just add the top 5 and claim to be rank one avarage in some stats?

I mean just add gertjaars and kick all other persons and you can claim your clan to be rank 1 crafting, firemaking and cooking avarage in the highscores, isn't that unfair?

What scores can a clan achieve actually, how will a clan be be able to show that they are the best in highscores?

Yeps.

Like i said, I'm not talking about hiscores.

Posablilaty to set max and min levels should be there, but only for total & combat.

Subscribe for membership and you can add up to a maximum of 200 players, if you have more then 200 you've got to make sure you start looking at inactive members and kick them.

Invitation rules include the person added by the clan needs to accept it, just like the clan needs to accept it if some applys. Again, your talking about a clan hiscores list and I aint.

Hiscores? I'm talking about a clan setup system + a real clan chat setup system instead of the current personal chat.

Well I'm sorry, but in this case you can just as create a noobaccount with the name of the clan and add all persons that want to join the clan and use the noobaccount as a clanchat.

I don't see any additional advantages in your idea compared to what's allready possible...

Then you don't look good, lol. We don't have a Invitation System and lots and can't set more requirements in levels for people to become a clan member. And this topic was started because noob account creating probably wasnt what Jagex tried to increase when they released Clan Chats.
