The thing is...he's hurt!!! :( :( :(

He's wandering around with a limp, the poor little guy!!

I'm no hedgehog expert (Who is?) But I've tried to get to the RSPCA etc.

Can anyone give me advice? I know milk upsets tummies, Dog or Cat food are very good and whatnot but...

For Love of God someone help me save [bleep]ey!!!!! :( :(

I was once told by a certain Rolf Harris that water and cat food are the way to go until someone from a care home comes by. Look in your local phone directory for any places that care for sick animals.

I made him a little shoebox house...Do I leave him in it outside overnight or with me in my room (and avoid fela infestation). The RSPCA site say I should keep an injured one in a well ventilated room.

POOR LITTLE [bleep]EY!! He's on my video phone atm :(

hedgehogs are here often where i live... and dependant on what part of the day it is there? hedgehogs only usually come out during the night. They only come out when its light if they are sick or something. Plus i wouldnt pick it up or touch it if i were you because they carry like 10 billion diseases ( probobly an over exageration :P ) But they do carry alot of diseases so i wouldn't keep it in your home.

Serious consideration should be given to proper diet for hedgehog, since they are prone to a variety of diet-related illnesses, usually related to an excess of fat in the diet. Unfortunately, some products labeled as "hedgehog food" are not nutritionally sound.

Some owners choose to feed cat food, but make sure that whatever food you choose to offer your pet is low in fat and iron and high in protein. There are a variety of quality hedgehog food products available on the Internet or through mail-order. This staple diet can be supplemented by lean cooked chicken, fruit and vegetables, and no more than one or two mealworms per day. See our Shopping Guide for some suggested staple hedgehog foods. Other treats can include cooked fish like salmon or tuna (fresh only since canned fish has too much salt for hedgehogs) or homemade delicacies like Miss Murray's Marvelous Mash, a chicken-and-rice puree that is also good for feeding to hedgehogs who are having oral problems.

Remember also that hedgehogs may be resistant to sudden changes in diet. Even if you want to stop feeding a particular food to your pet, you will probably want to do it gradually, mixing a little more of the new food each day until the old food is completely gone. Starting your young hedgehog off by feeding a mixture of two or more staple foods can help them avoid some finicky eating in their later years.

http://www.hedgehogvalley.com/findvet.html explains how to find vetinarians that might treat hedgehogs, but it's not that easy. :(

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Put a big doorway type thing in the end of the box so he can get in and out. Put a tiny bit of food in it and water and leave it outside. If hes still in it in the morning call the RSPCA. The doorway enables him to leave if he wants. If hes sick he'll most likely stay in the box.

Gah! Blasted Wirral! :x No animal shelters for miles! :(

He's in my old hamster cage, lots of straw in there. I used drain cleaning gloves so no tetanus jab for me :P

But the poor ickle guy, you know where I found him? DOWN A DRAIN!!!

He fit snugly in it, couldn't get out (Although he seemed to be having fun, blowing bubbles, hehe was cute) but he woulda been stuck.

There's a park nearby but how did he get all the way here with his ickle limp?

Ne0z Matt and Mad, thanks heaps for the info (you too lionheart :)) hopefully ickle [bleep]ey will get through the night and to a shelter in the morning. (It was still light outside when I found him)

This is just SO strange though. It's definately the same hedgie I rescued from the dreaded McFlurry, he has the same strange markings behind his ears and spinelessness in places. Is this fate?

PS - I'm calling him Milligan (As in [bleep]e Milligan :P) Or just [bleep]ey for short.

As soon as I can get this blasted K700i to upload I'll show the vids and pics.

Vive le [bleep]ey!

Heh :P Apparently though giving milk gives them severe diahorrea, meaning dehydration and...*gulp*

So no more mcflurries for him, just as a precaution :P

I'm becoming a hedgehog anorak :D Hedgeyhog fleas can only live on hedgehogs I am informed, and will perish if on rugs or humans.

But I found a rescue shelter for [bleep]ey, so I guess it will finally be goodbye. A 40 minute drive so not too far for the ickle guy.

Maybe we'll meet again someday in this crazy world...

God the little fella gets me emotional

I REMEMBER HIM! That pic was brilliant! :P

From what I remember of childrens programs (thinks like Blue Peter and such), hedgehogs natural diets are slugs and snails. Well, my garden path seems to be snail highway at night, I'm that'll keep him more than entertained!

Goals to get my skills back up to a barely respectable level on the high scores:

Currently going for Bone to Peaches spell. It's amazing how boring doing the same repetitive task is! Stupid MTA

Awww, there's lots of information on the internet about keeping hedgehogs as pets...

gosh... it would be cool if [bleep]ey became your pet :D

Goodbye [bleep]ey :(

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Totally not trying be a nagworm, but isn't it ASPCA? Or is that just the american title? Anyway, we use to get hedgehogs (or is it porcupines? is there a difference?) a lot in our backyard a lot when we had a fence instead of a brick wall in our backyard. Everytime they did we caught them trying to reach the cat food we had for our outdoors cat. They always ran away back into the wash anytime I got close to them.

Once is luck, Twice is a coincedence, Three times is would be just crazy.

I can't get to the shelter tomorrow though so I don't know what I'm gonna do. He's gonna have to stay here because with his limp he'd get squished in no time, it's quite the urbanized area.

I'd love to keep him in my room but...it's a hedgehog. Even if his fleas would die on my floor, how do you potty train a hedgehog? Would it eat my coursework. It's a complete unknown! I don't wanna keep [bleep]ey and realise that his life is all crummy cooped up in my room.

But I don't want him put down just because of his limp. I don't think a vet would operate on his iddy biddy leg if that's the problem.

Crikey, talk about a dilemma.

Edit:

If hes still in it in the morning call the RSPCA.

I think that's just the American. The R stands for Royal, which USA dont have ;)

Well, I woke up at 7:30am to find that [bleep]ey had left.

He gobbled up all his food, lapped up his bowl of water and had scurried out of his ickle box.

I went around all the local roads to see if there was a squished hedgie anywhere and there wasn't.

I'm think I'm happy. I think it means that he's recovered and made if back safely to wherever his habitat is. Or atleast I like to think so.

Thanks everyone for helping me out!
