Okay, I think I have everything plugged in on my new computer, but when I try and boot i hear it going the cpu fan spins like 1/4, the case fans spin, and all the little led lights near the fan light up it stops then like 10-20 seconds later it starts again. I shut it off right after that.

 

Dont tell me I broke something. :-#

You've probably got some POST troubleshooting to do. I had a similar problem with one of my builds using ram somewhat similar to yours; my OCZ Reapers needed a lot of juce, and the MB couldn't provide it unless I upped the voltages. I had to buy a cheap stick of ram to get it to boot into setup, then amped up the voltages to 2.4 so my Reapers could power up.

Well I fixed that problem (kinda)

 

I tried replugging everything back in and it worked, next time not, then yes. Weird.

 

But now when I boot to the vista install disk it has the loading windows screen then just a multi-blue color screen (like fades from darker to lighter blue.) I can move the mouse and everything. Did I forget a step between turning computer on and installing Operating System?

Sounds like a potentially faulty part, but it could also be caused by underdriven memory. I've had weird things like flashy colors and random freezeups from it. Try upping the voltage to 2.4 through the setup MB.

Yeah. I'll bet anything you'll run into stability and other weird problems undervolting the high end OCZ memory. You pretty much have to hit at least 2.3-2.4 (possibly higher if you overclock like I do; the stuff can handle it easily, and it's backed with that great overclocks warranty).

Yeah that. You pretty much just put it on a floppy or something that can boot.

You applied proper thermal paste like arctic silver and cleaned the heatsink before attaching it, right?

 

 

 

You will get major overheating issues if you don't apply silver or other thermal paste (in some cases, even the stock included-paste is faulty or not enough to keep it cool, you'll need to use isopropanol alcohol to clean it off) between the processor and the sink. Only a very small amount should be used, the size of a rice grain

 

 

 

If you don't apply it, the computer will shut down due to high temperature itself after maybe half a minute or less, if it does work momentarily you'll get display artifacts, bluescreens and other errors. It's absolutely *not* possible to run a computer without applying a thermal solution between the aluminium/copper heatsink and the top of the processor. (Unless you have water cooling, even then it's recommended)

Make that about 3 seconds. I worked for a company a few years ago overhauling servers. My co-worker had to swap coolers on a CPU. I was helping him. We put the new cooler on, then booted it up. We got about 3 seconds into the POST before it shut down. We turned it on several times, but nothing happened. We noticed something smelled burnt, and pulled off the cooler. Underneath, the CPU was literally glowing orange. He had accidentally touched the thermal paste before he put on the cooler, and apparently the oil from his skin messed up the heat flow.

 

 

 

Bottom line: If his CPU is overheating from no thermal paste, it's probably not going to last all the way into windows setup. It could, however, be an improperly seated cooler. I'd still bet my money on undervolted ram, though.

Stock heatsink typically has thermal paste on it already. You're probably fine.

Seriously though, the stock intel heatsinks all come with thermal paste applied. If you're worried download Speedfan and check your CPU temps. :)
