A bar freezer would be better but yeah a fan should do it, although I recommend that you wait for the people who actually knows something, I'm a bad example.

Yikes. If the core is your CPU you should really get thermal paste on there. It's like $5. Also make sure your CPU heatsink is working properly, like if it's spinning and everything.

My cores hit 36c after 5 hours of solid stress testing, 32c under normal use. The ambient temperature in my house is 23c.

Yes. TURN IT OFF AND CHECK IT. Your destroying your CPU running it at 200+F; you've taken years off of its life, and the longer you go the more damage you'll cause. I wouldn't be surprised if it's ruined already, those chips can't handle that kind of heat.

Your computer would be overheating at about 60C, and at anywhere from 75-80C, serious damage starts happening. STOP USING YOUR COMPUTER until you get this fixed. Unless you want buy another cpu.

 

 

 

If you didn't put on any thermal paste, you should do that. I don't think that 95C could be caused by a lack of cooling with that processor. Follow Blue Lancer's instructions. For good measure, get another fan or some type of cooling, and for the first test time, keep it with the case open and a floor fan or the like on it (I did that when I had CPU problems on a new build).

Use one of the Arctic Silver compounds. Don't follow the whole spread it out thing, just put a (small) drop in the middle, then press down the cooler (fairly hard) and twist it a couple degrees to the right and left a few times to work out all the air bubbles. That's the instructions on the Arctic Silver website, and it gave me 40- temps.

Nope. Once is enough. Although if you ever take the cooler off to swap processors\coolers you'll have to scrape off the old, clean it, and apply new paste.

Make sure that it is seated correctly, and that it's locked in. Intel heatsinks can be kind of a pain in the [wagon] to lock in there. And, stupid question, but the heatsink fan IS running right?

Two ways. You can either:

 

 

 

A. Just play a game for a bit, something fairly intensive. Of course you'll have to just window down after a bit if you only have 1 monitor to check temps.

 

 

 

B. Download Orthos. It is a program that allows you to stress test your CPU and/or RAM, and will let you easily see what the max temperature the CPU can get up to quickly.

 

 

 

 

 

I would recommend B just to be safe.

Just try and see what it levels out at. Orthos usually ends up making your CPU run a little hotter than you'll have under normal conditions.

(The thermal paste I got seemed pretty [cabbage]ty, best buy were out of arctic silver stuff so I bought some "white thermal grease" from the only computer computer shop that had some. I will probably get some better stuff later.

54 is ok. I'm guessing you'll mostly run around 45C-50C maximum in games. I had a CPU running at close to 60C before for a while without any real problems.

 

 

 

 

 

I would just, down the road, maybe spend like $20-$30 and get yourself a nice heatsink, like the Freezer Pro 7 or something. That coupled with a good brand of thermal paste should help keep temperatures down!

Damnit I forgot, when I put the side cover back on it will probably get hotter.
