Hey guys (and, as stated in the title, I apoligize for yet another thread about purchasing a new computer). For a while, I've been looking to replace this (very) crappy Dell pc I have that was honored enough to be put on the 'Top 10 Worst PCs' list because of a manufacturer defect. Not only that, but it's just simply become to old to stand a chance in today's world of modern gaming specifications. I originally set my price goal at $1100 (which is a freaking lot of money...), but I stumbled upon this Acer Aspire X1200.

 

 

 

I'm skeptical, but I've asked around, went to brand name computer sites; and apparently, it's a very good deal (the specs of a $1000 pc for half the price). Tell me what you guys think. Here are the specs:

NVIDIA® GeForce® 8200 On-Board Graphics

 

4GB DDR2 Memory

 

320GB SATA II Hard Drive

Windows Vista® Premium 64 with SP1

 

 

 

The only concern my friends have pointed out is that the NVIDIA GeForce 8200 is on-board, not a PCI card.

 

 

 

But basically, I want a PC that can easily run today's games (such as WoW, Spore, and the upcoming Sims 3). I really hate Vista, but it looks like I have no choice. Is the new Windows OS going to come out this year? I'd really rather not buy a Vista just to have it replaced in a little while.

If size matters then its a good deal.

 

Otherwise you should be able to pick up a similar if not better PC for less.

If you need something that needs to be fit into a small space that doesn't cost that much then it's a good deal. You could do a lot better though, an 8200M won't perform very well on modern games.

 

 

 

I found this on Newegg which looks decent (no screen though). You could build a better value one yourself though I wouldn't recommend this unless you know what your doing, or if you can find someone to help you do it.

Yea, I really wanted to avoid the 'build your own pc' path because it sounds just like a crapload full of headaches. Anyways, that looks kind of interesting, but are there any other suggestions?

Don't buy it. It's a pretty little machine without any drivers installed. Nor does Acer supply these. I almost got hooked into it myself, but then I read the reviews. :thumbdown:

If you want to game that is not the PC to get. The video card is horrible and I'm not a fan of Athlon X2's.

 

 

 

Look for a full sized PC with a normal video card.

I refuse to be censored. Yeah, I just favor [Censored for time being] for its short, simple URLs. Obviously it lets you get around censors, but there's so many thousands of services out there that tip.it will never get them all.

Seriously. Why the heck do you need a censor-bypassing link to direct me to a site? Honestly, it takes five times longer to go and set up that link than to just use Ctrl + X, Ctrl + V. So, now, I have to have it on all the time or else it won't power back on. Not only that, but all of the other computers we own (which, of course, are Dells) all have some little defect of their own. =/

Not bad. a 9600GS would be able to handle a bunch of stuff, although more demanding games like GTA4 would probably need to be toned down.

I'm used to talking to people who are scared of long links, or forcing them to enter them over the phone. The censor part was about tip.it. I've owned\serviced hundreds of dells, and they really aren't any better or worse then other brands for reliability; they usually score in the middle\upper range of customer surveys for repairs and problems, so your experience is atypical.

I got my laptop with a 40% off coupon for around 1200$, a similar build was 2200$ at HP. I was able to customize it to my exact specifications to get what I needed at a far lower cost. Big thumbs up to dell, they're only expensive if you don't know about their coupon deals.

So your going to get it all on uATX motherboard and with a case smaller then 10.6" x 14.4" x 4" including a DVD, card reader and a full size graphics card for less then the one he linked?

 

Then you have to take into account heat, power supply and expansion.

 

 

 

It would be a bad idea even if you've build a few PC's before as the uATX form factor is very small, so is the case and the cable management would be a [cabbage].
