Why cant you use a proxy are you locked out of the internet options on your web browser?

This is what you will end up having to do. Dont even bother if you dont have the patience to read an learn.

You will need to set up a proxy at your home connection

Forward the ssh ports on your router to your comp (the proxy one)

make sure your home comp is listening on the ssh ports.

Download putty and install it on the comp you have at school.

If you cant install anything download putty portable from portableapps.com

When you are at school open a putty tunnel to your proxy server.

Modify the internet options to use the putty tunnel for the connection its in proxy options.

If they have the browser locked download firefox portable from the site mentioned above.

Presto you are on runescape.

There are alot of smaller steps but that should be enough to get you started on the research you need to do to set all that up. I might have missed a step somewhere its been ages since i did anything IT.

Then again, if he cannot download files from his school computer. He could download them at home and put them on a flash drive, then run them from it at school?

A lot of the time that didn't work for me when I was in school. I tried doing that with Flash player and it never let me. He'd have to be an administrator I bet.

Im telling you the only way you are going to get it to work is to tunnel through their firewall webfilter thing. What i said above is what we had to do to get runescape to work at my school. They just get a file with websites to block, its constantly being updated by a third party so anytime you find a webproxy it will just be blocked in a few days. Read about tunnels and proxys. If you want to get it to work bad enough you can make it happen, the only thing holding you back is yourself. Addicts can always find drugs, runescape addicts can always play runescape. My good friend is only few weeks away from mastering breaking WEP encryption so he can use the wireless network at his school. Its all a matter of motivation.

Doing stuff like this has a steep learning curve. However, once you get over the hump the knowledge and skills you get can be applied anywhere.

if i was there i could probably get on. once i dodged a whole security system at school to go on youtube.

P.S it was completely worth it

I'd just like to point out that this is no help to the poster whatsoever...

I downloaded the RS client and put it on a jump drive (I don't have any clue how that worked-- the RS site was blocked in both Mozilla and Internet Explorer, but from the client it ran fine) I doubt it will work but perhaps its worth a shot.

If this is the same thing that's been recommended before, I apologize. I'm not very internet/computer savvy.

i wouldnt advise playing in school as it often results in violating school policy (as i and many others saw in my highschool my senior year, resulting in detentions and suspensions)

however there IS a way., granted you can access flash drives or cdrom...

download firefox, and copy the actual "firefox[Caution: Executable File]" program to the flash drive or cdrw,

then make sure you change the name of it, either before or after transferring the firefox app,

to something along the lines of "notepad[Caution: Executable File]" or another approved school program.

thus the pc will think it's running notepad, the word processing app, but in reality you'll be

running mozilla firefox with its built in web proxy.
