My rant starts in Edgeville bank, a great place to train and talk to others at the same time. Friends pop in now and again; time really flies by. After a tedious day of school, I felt content in sitting at my desk watching the needles thread my leather into green dragonhide bodies. I noticed someone behind me, asking to borrow a skirt.

I assumed they were talking to me, being the only person standing at this particular booth and wearing an Armadyl plateskirt. I politely declined, I did not want to lend my skirt out on this particular occasion as I had only recently purchased it and was still enjoying it's spark. When asked again to lend it out, I ignored the player as I had clearly already stated that I didn't want to let it go today.

The player was disgruntled to say the least, which seemed to annoy a few other people in the bank. A few words were exchanged between the player and another stranger in the bank, where he was asked to stop annoying me. I told the stranger that he wasn't annoying me, when in reply the player said:

"I only asked him because I -thought- Sir Hartlar was a nice guy."

Whoa, why does me refusing to lend out an item I earnt have anything to do with my disposition as a "nice guy". I will say that I always try to be helpful in game but I shouldn't have to extend this courtesy to giving away items I am using. So what if you are going for a firecape? Use d'hide chaps, or a piece of barrows armour. Just because I have an optimal piece of gear doesn't mean I should lend it out left right and centre to anyone that wants to use it.

Of course, me being me, I felt really guilty about not lending it out. So, I run after the player and offer it to them. I put it up for three hours, which is plenty of time to do the fight caves in. But, of course, this isn't enough. They want it for at least five hours. How stupid of me, I seem to have forgotten about the two hour grace period after you get the cape that you need to prance around in the items you used to obtain it.

So, through the fault of my own good heart I am without my skirt for the next five hours. Why is it that there are players like this who seem to think the whole game should be handed to them on a silver platter? I was tempted to tell them to earn the 10M it cost me to buy that plateskirt. If it was a friend or someone I was familiar with I would happily lend out my item to them. I didn't receive a word of thanks, and his ungrateful manner has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

The more you know...

Of course, he didn't know your situation, that you recently obtained it. The one thing you shouldn't have done was corrected everyone else... saying that it was OK and that you weren't annoyed.

You should've given it to him until logout, and then when you feel he is in the fight pits, at some high level wave of monsters, logged out... his armour disappears, and he dies. That would've been funny.

A lot of people expect this game to hand them everything on a silver platter.

Item lending was a bad idea, in my opinion. All it does is encourage begging, because now it's a safe way to lend. The only option for lending should be until logout.

This is going to make me sound like a complete [wagon] but it needs saying:

Players think they can get away with this kind of thing because, honestly, there right. They can. People like you who cave in and give them what they wan't teach them they can beg to get what they want. This is like giving a child everything they wan't when they throw a tantrum. I had a firend who youngest sister was treated like this (though I woudl be tempted to give in two, listnign to that for more than a minute gave you violent urges directed at the source). She was probably the most awful child I have ever met, and can only hope she grew up to be a much more tolerable person.

If people didn't give free stuff to people who beg, then people wouldn't beg. People do it because it works. If someone ever begs you for stuff in the game and there obviosly not just a new player in need of some guidance, then just let the natural reaction of anger take its corse. You don't need to be an [wagon] about it, but thats probably more effective. If someone wan't to judge you based on you not lending out an item because they demand it, know they are just manipulating. That person probably didn't think you were nice at all, hes probably done it a few times before. To him your just another sucker he can take advantage of.

I feel for you. I've gone (or at least I'd like to think so) out of my way quite a number of times to help strangers out when they needed it and all I get in return instead of a "thanks" is a "can u help moar plz" or a "kk cool". You just shouldn't have fallen for his attempt to guilt trip you. After all, it was you who did the hard work to get it, so it doesn't really matter if some random inconsiderate kid thinks lesser of you because you refused to lend out your item.

The next time you're put in this position, just don't allow yourself to feel guilt. You did absolutely nothing wrong, so there's no need to feel bad about saying "no", right?

Why on earth would you give it to him? You played right into his hands. He started off with the whole 'nice' act to try and get you to loan, then went into 'guilt trip' mode as a last-ditch effort to try and force you to lend it against your will. It worked, you've taught him a lesson - now you can bet he'll be doing the same thing to every other person he wants something from.

I used to be a proud owner of a dark bow, and every time i was not using it (in other words 99% of the time) i would shout in either castle wars/grand exchange that i was lending it for 24 hours.

Free of charge... So far no one has thanked me for it. After i say good luck with the bow, they just walk away...

=(, such is the average runescape player, Don't lend items.

O.O

If it's your item you can lend it or not. The other person can just suck it up and get their own and actually WORK for it, or they can keep asking to lend and lend and lend until they rot. Lending is like another way to get free stuff. It might be useful to help actual friends and not people who say you are mean for not lending YOUR item. They're just trying to get you to give them what they want. Don't feel guilty for not lending, it probably teaches them to actually work for their own needs.

Heh i remembered someone saying about "I only asked him because I -thought- Sir Hartlar was a nice guy." that appeared in the public chat when I was training summoning.

Meh if you really don't wanna lend it just say 'It's not mine', works everytime for me ;)

I don't think you should have given it to him, but you're kind than I am, hehe. That's the reason I don't like to wear rares/phats - too many people ask to borrow. Every second of every day of every week of every month. It got so annoying at one point that I considered saying something that would have gotten me muted.

And then I remembered the ignore list, :)
