The entire Smash series is pretty awesome, but I'd say Melee is the best. I also think SoulCalibur 2 is a pretty good fighter. The DBZ Budokai games were also pretty good. They required a lot of skill trying to pull off combos and moves etc. I also used to be a fan of Mortal Kombat, especially with the fatalities.

I've played melee, and one of the arcade SF's

Never saw much in the latter.

tia love your sig >_>

I don't think you can get a fair representation of a game by playing it in the arcade for a little bit. Also look up above your post.

I actually had a lot of fun with the recent one for the 360 with my younger brother. It's not exactly tournament ready (a lot of Random stuff goes on) but it still is pretty fun. And trying to juggle back and forth a beam between each other is fun. :D

Killer Instinct series will be my favorite fighting games of all time, i read somewhere they might be making KI3 for 360, hopefully they do

just bought sf4, not liking it too much. maybe i've played the series out already :|

Opinions are opinions.

Brawl is aimed at kids around like 10, but its like pokemon - has hidden stuff that only smarter/older/more mature people can understand - and yea you have to play it quite a bit to understand how technical it can be

I dont need a siggy no moar.

The problem I have is all of the moves are performed with something like B, F+B, Back+B, U+B, D+B. I tried looking for some actual moves to use (like every other fighting game there is) and can't find any. It's just really simple to do.

Here are some more videos to kind of show a lot of the strategy behind Street Fighter.

The advanced is a good one to watch. It shows Instant Overheads, Reversals, Piano Inupts, Button Up Reversals (Negative Edge) and Safe Jumps. These all relate to SSF2T but SF4 pretty much has all of these and a bit more (because it has the addition of focus attacks and an EX meter)

Ah, Brawl is just too casual. Melee, not as much (with combos and all), but a good blend between casual and competitive.

I played some fighter when I was bored at a department store in Taiwan, but I have no idea what the name is...Some Naruto thing, I think. Was pretty fun, though I was playing against like 7-year olds. :P

And Soul Calibur 2 was no doubt the best in the series.

Nintendo dumbed down Brawl because they want lil kids to win more. Nintendo doesn't like hardcore competition in their games.

I am slightly surprised there is no love for guilty gear or one must fall yet.

I would have to say that SF is much more technical than brawl if not simply due to trying to pull off double 360's and a button to get an awesome throw off, before someone jabs into you.

I prefer games that are weapon based combat, so out of preference I like guilty gear over SF. Also it is completely ridiculous which makes it fun to watch as play.

I mean who does not like a 15ish year old girl carrying an anchor riding on a dolphin to punch a dude in the face?

After playing a decent amount of 2d fighters, it made all 3d fighters feel slow and clunky.

Is guilty gear the game with the ridiculous to pull off moves that kill a person in like one hit? (or close to it). If so I remember playing that a while back against a friend who was good at the game. I was randomly button mashing and somehow pulled off that combo and killed him. :P

And yeah pulling off stuff like Zangeif's 720 spin is a [bleep].

Well to shed some light on some bias I see here, Brawl really isn't a technical game, due to the lack of hitstun. Priority is also in Brawl as well, so Street fighter is not more complicated in that matter, although the Super armor/Invincibility frames Ray is talking about are exactly what they sound like; you are invincible for a few frames, although you take damage.

I'll say it again. Brawl is NOT all that technical. It has more to do with what we call mindgames.

Care to elaborate on mindgames?

At least someone finally admits that Brawl isn't a technical game.

Yup, haha you pulled one off button mashing, that is awesome. To get into '1hit ko mode' you have to press all 4 face buttons at the same time, then execute the combo while you life slowly drains away while in that mode. And if you fail then you can not use super moves anymore, nor FRCs.

My take on mind games is to either lure the opponent into an attack for which you have a counter ready, or to make it hard for the opponent to know what move sets you are going to pull off.

The latter is called 'mixing it up' and is important in all fighting games.

Mindgames is an extremely general term, which usually refers to predicting the opponent, while being unpredictable yourself. This allows you to follow the most important saying in Brawl. "Don't get hit."

Not to be rude but that sounds like the basic principle of any fighting game. Although if you want to go a bit further there are a few characters in SF4 who's strategy revolves around confusing their opponent (such as El Fuerte). They do this by having one base special and then numerous other followups you can do, so it's hard to predict.

It is the core principle of all fighting games. Do more damage to the opponent than the opponent does to you. However, the impact on Brawl is more than you expect, due to the lack of hitstun and combos. Obviously, there is character strength, matchups, and advanced techniques put into play, but the core principle determines the player's skill the most. (Not the fighter's.)

Edit: This sounds confusing when I re-read it...
