RuneScape lowering PC performance?

Over the last few weeks, I've gotten a lot of "low on virtual memory" warnings and my PC lags a lot. This generally happens after I play RuneScape, although restarting solves the problem. However, the PC lags even after RuneScape is closed.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

PC specs would be fun to have though.

+1. Usually only happens if you have a lower spec PC with a lower amount of RAM.

Hmm, I never changed the RAM on this computer.

Technically you never need to change the RAM.

The reason we want the specs is to know whether it's insufficient RAM or something else that is still unknown.

This computer has a 3 GHz processor and 512 MB of memory.

Yeah, you might want to upgrade that. If this is a desktop, most standard desktops come with at least 2GB of RAM (as far as I know). Does Runescape really run smoothly on that? When I used to play on my laptop with 1.37GB of RAM, it lagged a significant amount most of the time.

Well, probably the System Restore feature of Windows grew big and it took the disk space that your PC needs for virtual memory. Lowering the disk space allocations for System Restore under the System Properties control panel can help;)

512MB is a bit on the low side in todays terms, 2GB+ is standard with most computers. I used to get the problem when I played on my dads computer, which only had 256MB and that was on standard definition. Web browsers and RuneScape in general use a lot of memory; normally windows will expand the size of the page file (virtual memory) if it gets low.

As for 'fixing' this, I'd suggest either adding more RAM, or if you don't want to do that, you need to reduce the number of programs running at once. Have you got any AV suites such as Norton or McAffee running? They can take up quite a lot of memory when idling. Also, what Operating System are you running? Posting these would be useful if you want further help ;)

I have Windows Vista with 2GB of RAM (and a dual-core processor) and RuneScape HD takes 60% of my CPU most of the time which generates low performance. To be perfectly honest with you, if that happens with 2GB of RAM, you can see what happens to only 512MB.

I'd recommend looking around and uninstalling/exiting unused programs that just bog up memory.
