March 21, 200917 yr My friend just got a new laptop but she doesn't have an antivirus program at the moment and wants a free one that she can use. I've looked at some free ones like Avast and AVG but can't figure out which one will have the best protection for the computer. March 21, 200917 yr Hababadidabba program! Or you can go for Avast or Avira, i wouldn't recommend AVG. Combine with a firewall (windows one or zonealarm or comdo). March 21, 200917 yr Avira. I've recently upgrade the latest version and it's protected me from a lot of nasties that AVG completely missed. Avast is quite good to, but I prefer Avira. "In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

I would have said exactly the same thing exept maybe for the firewall. I suggest zonealarm, it's good.
March 21, 200917 yr Avast is a good one. There isn't really a good one thats free, they do all have their flaws. She could get a trial version of trend micro or something for the first few just so she can keep and eye out and search for one she actually likes. March 21, 200917 yr In fact, Avast is also declining currently. It has loads of falsepositives and can't delete viruses completely most of the time. For free antivirus, Avira antivir is for the win.
