Talal28
Alright I have decided to try to install & run BF2 (Battlefield 2) again (first time wouldn't work >.>) I have windows vista and every time I attempt to run BF2 on my comp it goes to a black screen like its working, then goes straight back to the desktop. I have searched Google many times and have tried many fixes but none will work. I have a pretty new computer, less than 1.5yrs old. When I go into the "EAsy Info" in the CD's autorun it says this: System Overview / Comparison Your System Results Game Requirements Operating System: Unknown Fail Windows XP System Memory: 2038.8 Pass 512.0 Processor Speed: 2000.7 Pass 1700 Mhz (1.7 GHz) DirectX Version: 10.0 Pass 9.0c Display Device: Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Family Unknown Compatibility Display Memory: 256.0 Pass 128.0 Display Driver: 7.14.10.1461 Unknown Compatibility Sound Device: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Pass Sound Driver: Unknown Compatibility DirectX Information Version 10.0 Long Version 4.09.0000.0904 Display Device (Primary Only) Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Family Device Description Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Family Manufacturer Intel Corporation GUID D7B78E66-6432-11CF-8C73-5E0AADC2CD35 Driver Version 7.14.10.1461 Module igdumd32.dll Date 3-25-2008 Memory Local 256.0 Local 256.0 Non-Local 192.0 Texture 256.0 Sound Device (Primary Only) Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Device Description Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Manufacturer GUID 97FD607B-0987-4ED8-95FB-F693F360C5E6 Driver Version Module {0.0.0.00000000}.{97fd607b-0987-4ed8-95fb-f693f360c5e6} Date N/A Capabilities Max 3D Buffers 0 Supports Mono Output True Supports Stereo Output True Monitor Information Monitor Name HP w2207 Wide LCD Monitor Refresh Rate 60 Hz Operating System Information Unknown Internet Explorer Information Version 8.00.6001.18702 System Device Information Processor Intel 2000.7 Mhz Memory System Total 2038.8 Virtual Total 2047.9 Pagefile Total 4096.0 Snapshot System Available 1049.9 Virtual Available 1961.0 Pagefile Available 3195.7 _____ I honestly don't know whats wrong with my PC hardware and settings.. Nadril
well your video card is really poor, might be the problem.
Talal28
I was thinking that. :? How much would a semi cheap/good one would cost?
Nadril
Depends on what your PSU is (power supply). (I also assume that if you have a PC with a core2duo you have a PCI-E slot) A cheap card could run you about $50-$80 probably. If you have a prebuilt machine what is it's model? das1330
weird, I have a laptop that I use to play it. it does have an nvidia chipset though Nvidia makes only a very small handful of laptop chipsets; and all of the ones they do make come with a descrete graphics card built in. Talal28
So.. Can I go to bestbuy and buy any graphics card and it will work? (if its like.. ram.. etc requirements..) or do the cards have to be like.. designed to fit in my pc.. I have no idea XD
Sbrideau
You first have to check the wattage on your power supply (pop open the case and check on the PSU sticker, should be on the upper back corner of the computer), and honestly, bestbuy is quite overpriced on those parts, I suggest you buy from www.newegg.com . Talal28
Alright.. Any suggestions as to which gfx card I should get?
OldJoe
Nadril and Sbrideau have already asked without you answering, tell the total wattage, and the wattage on the 12v line/s and the amps on that, manufacturer would be good too. I won't advice on anything until you give me those specs. Dracion1
Unfortunately 250W a bit on the low side. If you want a graphics card of any sort I'd reccomend you'd get a new PSU. This looks like a good buy, and should allow you to easily run some of the higher end cards. "In the beginning, the universe was created. OldJoe
The amps on the 12v rail on that psu is a bit low.
Talal28
Yeah I figured I would need a new one #-o So yesterday I went to best buy and found a 50$ 400watt PSU, (im going to have them install that.. for 40$.) That should provide enough power for: BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card. Its $69.
OldJoe
Do you have a link to that psu...? I mean, it won't have a problem running 8400gs, but more to see what you're getting for your money. And 70$ for a 8400gs? You could get a 4670 for that money. Asus 8400gs 256mb ddr2 - 31$ (21 after rebate) Asus 3450 256mb ddr2 - 30$ (20 after rebate) More than half the price than on Bestbuy! These two both perform about the same, so toss a coin. You don't want a fan with one of these cards, which is why i chose passive cooling. I'd order the psu i picked and one of the above cards and let a pc-store put them in for you. You'll save alot of money. Dracion's psu wont have a problem running this setup, but you get more juice on the rosewill psu. Talal28
Tyvm :D I will buy the ones you suggested probably, unless I decide to go with a larger PSU. :twss: Um, How are these two? What would be better? One of these or yours? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817339012 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817148027
Sbrideau
I would still go for the rosewill. The ones you posted in the post above mine have bad specs for the number of W they give.
Talal28
Alright Ill take the rosewill then, Now which gfx card should i get, that would cost 50-70$?

OldJoe
Oh crap lol sorry. I forgot you wanted to play BF2, was only thinking of RS lol when suggesting the budget cards. MSI 4830 92$ (72 after rebate) Gigabyte 4670 80$ (50 after rebate) Gigabyte 9600gso 80$ - passive cooling (50 after rebate) There is also an EVGA 9600gso with a fan which is 10$ more after rebate. 9600gso and 4670 perform about the same, but still turn out really great FPS for the price. 4830 blows both those cards (performs like 9800gt), and for only 72 bucks after rebate... Really nice deal. Guess it depends if you wanna save a bit of money or not. Check a review of the cards if you're unsure. Talal28
Thanks, I think I will take the 4830 :twss: How many watts does it need to function properly, and at overclock? Will the rosewill PSU you suggested work with it? or will It work fine with my fail 250w PSU? Edit: Will it even fit into my pc? Im not sure if If my PC has PCI Express 2.0 x16.. #-o
OldJoe
I don't know how much it needs, but it draws very little for the power it got. Here you have an idle and load charts with 4830 and other cards: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphi ... 30-512mb/3 ) Yes, the rosewill one will run it without a problem. Do not run it with your psu. I really mean it, you could very well blow up the psu in which you have a fire hazard and possibility of damaging other components, as it's right on the edge of what your psu can handle. Your pc have a pci-e x16 slot (4830 won't be able to use the double width of 2.0 anyways). Also, please make sure you can fit this card into your case, it is about 24cm long.
