rs economy crash?

Featured Replies

(before i start, i just want to say that i dont know if this should go here or on the discussion board. please move where needed)

ok, as i am sure most of us are aware of...the economy is crashing and i was just wondering if it was possible for the rs economy to do the same?

No, they are in no way related. The only possible way would be if people stopped being able to afford members, but then only members items would fall. Even then, you would need to assume that a roughly equal amount of suppliers and demanders would leave, so the economy would still stay about the same.

RuneScape could be shut down, thereby destroying the economy?

But for something of real discussion value, no, because every runescaper can perform every action of the runescape economy. Switching between a desk job and farming corn in real life is difficult, but switching from GWD'ing and killing green dragons is easy.

so in theory no. because there will always be a supplier and a demander to take the place of an old one?

No, but they will always be roughly equal. If you have 10 people selling Godswords and 8 people buying them, then 2 sellers and 2 buyers decide to leave, then there are 8 sellers and 6 buyers. The supply:demand ratio is still the same. The price wouldn't change, or not enough to tank the economy, at least.

10:8 =/= 8:6

40:32 =/= 40:30

Well, it didn't come out exactly how I wanted to say it. Maybe "ratio" wasn't the right word, but point being that there are still 2 people who cannot find sellers, so therefore the trend of a decreasing price on that Godsword will continue. The same amount of sellers match up with buyers as before.

Of course, in reality it wouldn't be an even 2 and 2, as in the example. It could be 1 and 3 or even 0 and 4, and the other way around. However if you wanna get anywhere you'd have to assume and equal amount of leave if the economy rl and rs were linked in any way.

Impossible because the Runescape market does not rely on credit (current market crash) or stock speculation (great depression crash). Because we purchase solely with GP that we actually have, there is really no chance.

It's virtually impossible.

We are under continuous strain of inflation here. Why? Blame it on High Alchemy. The real crash happened because people were using "speculative money" - meaning: money that doesn't exist. And when people en masse want money, you can't pay them with nonexisting money.

That is not the case in RS. Due to High Alchemy (and to lesser extents: Shop selling), the money pile continous to grow. One item can crash, but not the whole lot.

The only way I see RC economy crash possible if, suddenly, 50 players with max money quit and Jagex removes the Alchemy spell. Actually, just the removal of the Alchemy spell alone would probably cause a crash.

There's another thing, the "government" that runs Runescape (Jagex) can exercise a lot more power than the rl governments.
