I saw the fake and thought "Hmm... Pretty good!"

 

Then I scrolled down to the comments, and thought "OMG, WTF?!!?"

 

Seriously, and people say that Sal's raters are harsh and sometimes rude. Obviously she had to put some effort into it <_<

 

I don't see what the hell the name of the item has to do with anything. I Googled it, and I get why that's the name of the item. But I'm pretty sure the point of commenting/criticizing/rating is to explain your opinions of the fake, not the name <_<

 

Most less-experienced people who try something like this wouldn't have shaded it, and they would have gotten the perspective wrong.

Reasons:

 

? ?1.5? because the item's shading is more pixely than it is smooth. Also, the left ear on the girl (the girl's right ear) has a bit of antialiasing, meanwhile your antialiasing is turned off.

 

? ?0.25? because the right-click menu seems to be in the wrong position (I think). Also, shouldn't the item be "Nekomimi Ears"? It sounds a bit odd with just the name. (i.e. you wouldn't call V's mask "V" as a RuneScape item, you would call it "V's Mask" instead (referring to V from "V for Vendetta"))

 

? +1.0? because, at 100% zoom, the shading looks pretty good. Also, you did a nice job with the perspective

 

 

 

 

 

EDIT: Previous posts made me misunderstand and think "Nekomimi" is the name of some character, but Promise's post made me realize it's just a word meaning "Cat Ears", which would thus be a valid item name in RuneScape (although Jagex would probably translate it into English nonetheless ). I added back 0.25? to the rating

He/She made a fake item from scratch, and equipped it. Yes, the right-click menu was easy, but the rest wasn't:

 

 

I fail to see how that's nothing <_<

 

Unless it is a real RuneScape item, which I sincerely doubt (as I've mentioned, the pixelization in its shading, and the semi-blurriness in one of the equipped ones, as well as the unnatural lines which I did not notice until increasing the contrast significantly), this seems to me to be the case of "It's so good, it can't be fake! Thus, no effort! FAIL!!!"

 

 

 

If it is an actual item, can someone please say what the item's name is? I've searched through the internet, and RuneWiki, and the only thing related to ears in RuneScape is Bunny Ears.

Well it was only meant to be a simple MS Paint fake, I don't see why I must suffer such negative comments for it.

Any anti-aliasing you see is not meant to be anti-aliasing :P I wouldn't go through the trouble to do that in Paint.

I'm pretty sure the right-click menu is in the right place. It opens underneath the cursor centered in reference to the cursor.

For the love of god, I do not want to veer this topic away, but it does help. I can not mention how many times I've seen aspiring artists quit because they recieved so much heat from their peers. It's a sad thing because I'm always so joyful when I see others indulging in a hobby I so, myself, love. There are always better ways to give criticism which give support and help people improve.

 

 

 

I mean, really, the title even says "A SIMPLE Fake". The artist obviously didn't mean to make it out to be the next Mona Lisa, so why bring it to that level? Appreciate it, give nudges in the right direction, don't rip it to shreds. #-o

if anything i think it's more a thread to show how much the gallery sucks with criticism and has gotten elitist, which being new to the gallery myself, i fully agree with. it seems to all be sigs this sigs that, renders this renders that. "let's hope this fractal thing doesn't become the new thing" yeah that's a fantastic attitude to have when people are trying to show a different kind of work that what you normally see here. from what i've heard, i want the old gallery back.

Yes Nardil, yes I was. It was because of people giving me motivation that I tried harder to meet their expectations. I didn't want to let them down as they encouraged me on. That's why I'm so dissapointed now when I see the 1-liners people give out which are sometimes so blunt, it gives little for motivation, even detracts from it.

 

 

 

It's so subtle, it's hard to notice, but it's there. It was only when I took a hard look at this topic...then the identical one in Zybez {http://www.zybez.net/community/index.php?showtopic=1236493}, I was so depressed. Despite this post maybe being deleted, I mean, I just feel so sullen at that fact.

All I know is the one thing that kept me going wasn't the people saying "great job, you're awesome!", it was the person who literally flamed my work so hard that he got a temp ban for it, the person who drove me to become better just to prove to him that dammit I am a good artist.

 

 

 

The point is, it was all of the "Witty_Fool's" out there who inspired me to keep going. Yes, having positive reinforcement is nice now and then (and honestly a good mix is great) but don't slam someone when they give honest criticism, it's annoying. If you want to be Mr. Positive and motivate people, be my guest.

 

 

 

(And for the record I was horrible back then and I'm really lucky to have people who made me strive to be better).
