danetello
I've just got 68 summoning and I want to get 70 banked from waterfiends. What is the best setup and what should I take with me? (I have never been before)
Bauke
Crush weapon, ranged prayer, mage defense. A setup can probably be found in a guide somewhere.. but it's like karils, zamorakian spear/SS which is the most popular. danetello
Ok, I've got this wielded: Zammy spear Karils top Karils skirt Ring of life Skillcape (t) Glory Black vambs Dragon boots Will that be ok? And what type of things should I have in my inventory?
Bauke
I'd take barrow gloves if you have them. In your inventory you should have a super set, prayer pots, bunyip pouch (perhaps more than one) and maybe a bit of extra food since a bunyip probably won't heal enough. At least that's how I used to fight them. Twitter ||| Google+ ||| Facebook ||| LinkedIn ||| My very interesting weblog about science
homowz
take 2-3sharks, some ppots (take enough of them, about 10), a summ pot, 2bunyip pouches(make sure NOT to summ a follower since u cant take 1 while jumping in whirlpool. had to dismiss my bunyips because of that a few times before), 20swalow whole scrolls(bunyip special) since they drop losts of raw lobs and sharks. this allows you to fight without prayer for some time. if you got an enchanted excalibur take that 2 make sure to have 2-3 free inv spots for the drops! good luck ;) [hide]visage drop 11/01/09goals:all skills 70+ (completed)all skills 80+98% Of teenagers surround their minds with rap music, if you're part of the 2% that stayed with rock, put this in your signature, ROCK IS BETTER![/hide]
Assassin1357
I would take at least 40-50 scrolls since they drop food quite often

DragonSam
'Scuse me for piggy-backing on this topic, but you'll see why. I just got my first Slayer assignment from Duradel, and it's 199 Waterfiends. I've never even seen one, let alone fought one. I checked the Bestiary and accept the advice that starting on them in multicombat in the Chaos tunnels might not be wise. That means I have to go to the Ancient Cavern, which I haven't been to before, which means I have to first do the first firemaking task in the Barbarian Training mini quest, which I expect I can do. So then I go Waterfiend hunting. I've got red dragonhide top and bottom for magic defense, plus Seers Ring, an amulet of glory and regen bracelet. And Ava's Accumulator gives a little bit more magic defense, I think. And the Black Mask - will that still be useful slaying mage/range Waterfiends? I've also got dragon med helm and dragon boots. For a crush weapon the only thing I have at present is a granite maul, so nothing in the shield slot. Is this enough with potions, prayer and food? BTW, I have 300+ Slayer points, so I could skip. But I haven't skipped anything yet and would prefer not to. Best drop so far: Dragon Chainbody from a Dust Devil.

Also if you don't have a bunyip you sacrifice some of the most valuable/common drops there (extra raw sharks/lobs for you to eat).. - Also I think a whip + defender/pray book is better there than actually taking a maul.. + why a seers ring but no fury? :P First they came to fishingand I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing Then they came to the yewsand I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews Then they came for the oresand I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak out for me. My summoning will get me a bull ant to carry, but not a bunyip. I've got an Abyssal Whip, but only an iron defender so far, and no pray book. And the Seers Ring was around 50,000 while the Fury was 1.7 mill. I can spend a bit now, though - would you replace the Glory with a Fury as a high priority? Best drop so far: Dragon Chainbody from a Dust Devil.

thesearcher
You might try looking at your stats before you go to Duradel for tasks; you'll probably have a problem with this task, and others, without strong ranged. And slayer without a rune defender is.... an odd idea. Dragon drops: Half shield(cs), med helm(cs) Chainbody (cs) (I do a lot of monster hunting with my clan!Barrows: Guthan's plateboy [1]GWD: None yet, only done a few tripsOthers: I'd love to be able to let you know. And slayer without a rune defender is.... an odd idea. Well, I only went to Duradel on the "I'm in the area so I might as well drop in" basis - I've been doing Chaeldar with occasional Sumona tasks. And I've got to 69 Slayer without a rune defender, so far so good. It took me three hours to get an iron defender, so the prospect of grinding along for a rune defender didn't appeal all that much. But I get the message - I have some work to do before I can expect to manage Duradel assignments with any degree of comfort. Do you think it's even worth me trying 199 Waterfiends? DragonSam
High priority would be bunyip (along with 70 ranged).. Without that I doubt it's worth the trouble.. Thanks for the good advice, and especially for that generous offer. I'm a little embaraased to update, but in the interests of honesty... I decided to go and have a look. They couldn't be that bad, I handle plenty of lvl 110, 120, 130 beasties. I could just check them out, have a quick whack at one, and if things went bad, bug out with a teletab. So I got all prepared, accepting I didn't have the best equipment but thinking it would be enough for survival, and went and jumped in the lake. Went down the stairs, was reminded there is a brutal green dragon at the bottom, tried to run past, had forgotten to turn auto-retaliate off, had forgotten to bring my anti dragon shield, and got burnt to a crisp while running around in circles. Ahem. And even though someone was kind enough to bless my gravestone, I didn't get back in time to retrieve anything. Although, given that my gravestone was probably at the brutal green dragon's feet, I would probably have been wiped out a second time if I'd tried to retrieve. Sooooo... I've been on a big re-purchasing spree. Plus I bought an amulet of fury. Now I'm training up ranged to 70, but don't know if I'll have enough cash to get the other items I want. I notice that Verac's Flail does pretty good crush damage, and is faster than a granite maul. Is it considered worthwhile for Waterfiends? Best drop so far: Dragon Chainbody from a Dust Devil. But a option is, you can buy a Berserker ring (+4 strength). Zamorakian spear is 2.1m nowdays. So Obsidian mace w/Rune defender + Berserker ring could be a good and cheaper combo. But i know that Obsidian mace w/Rune defender is quite accurate. But currently i am working on this setup for myself: Slayer helmet (On task yes so not off task) Amulet of fury Karil's top Karil's leather skirt Dragon boots Barrow gloves Warrior ring (+4 slash>more accuracy to whip) Abyssal whip w/Rune defender Fire cape So we'll see if that works out well enough.
