Thanks for the support in the Today thread Pepsi. Kind of a touchy subject for me - I have a 26 year old autistic brother. He got to the point where my parents weren't physically able to look after him, and so he lives in what is essentially an old people's home for the mentally disabled which is where he'll be for the rest of his life. :( We visit him everyday, but there is still so much time when people could be doing stuff (like what dizzle was talking about) to him and we'd never even know. It scares me.

why the [bleep] else would you do homework

um... not all the hw I get is graded.. the teach just gives us hw and tells us to do it... not much point in doing it unless you need the practice. a bunch of people who are weak at math in class needed hw... like they made mistakes using the calculator.. and didn't memorize the formulas. so i asked the teacher for homework whenever we did math. but I never did any at home, except one of every kind of problem... and helped my classmates in class with problems they couldn't figure out.

i was jobless for a year and got fat. I was "encouraged" to go back to school. so I went. doing a training course for a job as a pharmacy assistant. then I plan to work, get paid, pay for the certification exam, work, go back to school again and turn into a real pharmacist. that is my current goal right now.

 

I'm almost done with my course, and i have two more [cabbage]ty tests (since its a condensed course, i can not miss a single day of class.. and I have an exam or two every week. my teacher also gives us mini quizzes every day we don't have an exam because we need to know drugs and abbreviations and other things based on memorization.. and he grades us for it because that's the best he can do to make us want to study etc.

 

but i don't get graded for hw unless it's an assignment that I have to hand in.

 

Halo, are you talking about the /FG/ers being 6 ft+?

... I'm gonna end up being the shortest in my family. I'm 5'4", my 13 year old sister is 5'5", my 15 year old brother is somewhere above 5'9", my dad is 6', and my mom is the same height as me. But I'm the smallest and basically the shortest. Yay.

but it doesn;'t matter. according to my CPR class on monday, if I have to stop you from choking and you're taller than me.. I'll just need to "help" you to your knees by kicking.. I mean kneeing the back of your knee.

I don't look down on you for having an austistic brother and sending him off to a home because you can't take care of him. Were I in your position, I'd probably do the same.

 

especially if I can't take care of him. this is slightly related. my mom has this friend who wanted to keep her old mom at home.. but social services came and took her away and they had to put her in a home because my mom's friend had to work all day and couldn't stay home to take care of her. she couldn't care properly for her mother.. and the mother ended up falling and breaking her hip.

 

yet my mom's friend was absolutely distraught because she still wanted to keep her mother. and my mom felt sad for her. yet... the way i saw it, she shouldn't keep her mother at home if it was bad enough that social services had to come and take the lady away!!!! i told my mom this. but she said that in our culture, the kids keep the parents at home when they get old... etc.

 

so I told my mom that if I couldn;t take care of her properly... that she'd get put in a home. and she agreed with me! because she knows how I am (lazy) and that the people at a home would treat her slightly better.. and if I didn't see her everyday, but visited every so often.. she'd actually get spoiled by me bringing gifts and feeding her.. and she'd enjoy the company of other old people etc.

 

yet.. if it was back in my home country.. i woouldn't put her in a home.. but i've seen brochures for homes for old people over here.. they usually look nice.

Doing slight changes to my English assessment to bring it up to four full pages. If I could find one thing I can talk crap about, I could extend it quite easily.

my mom works in a nursing home

she takes good care of the elders that live there

she lets them take their time doing things

or once in a while clean up themselves cause they crapped themselves

i wouldnt burden my kids with my presence in their home. id actually want to be put in a retirement home so i wouldnt inconveniennce them. not to mention that id be with my peers, people who i could relate to. my grandpa had a stroke a couple years ago and had to move out of his home. my mom wanted him to go to an assisted living center however my aunts thought they knew better or were in denial about his condition and insisted he move into a one story house. it was near a hospital, which is why my aunts thought itd be good. but of course it makes no difference when youve "fallen and [you] cant get up!" (couldnt resist). later my grandpa had even more complications and was hospitalized for weeks and then moved to an assisted living place where he made some friends and seemed to be in a much better mood. so assisted living can be a really good thing. but after improving in condition my aunts moved him back to his house where hes alone and he has to have nurses come over regularly to check on him which costs a fortune

My pop ended up in one of those places. The last time I saw him was on his birthday, and he was singing, being badass and such with all his bros. He had no legs, so being badass was quite easy for him.
