How2PK
Where are my movies? I posted 100 of them, but there's not a single one of them in that list. This is a joke. Also: this has got to be one of the poorest short lists I've ever seen. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore! How2PK
You could've taken the first ten or something... You see, I make an effort, start the list earlier than planned to help you on this topic, and then you just ignore it? That's not really a good way to make your threads succesful. How2PK
What is the idea behind voting on "somewhere between 10 and 20 movies" (it would be better if you were a bit clearer, this is really vague) and then you need to wait for five people to vote again? Why can't you just rate every movie on that list (that you've seen of course) in one time? I really don't get this tournament. :? I'm sure you mean well, but it's really vague. Harakiri
You can do that...I'm just following the format some other guy said to do. You wanna rate the ones you've seen, go ahead. I also posted all your movies in the list...
How2PK
Oké. But don't you think it's better to think some things over and kind of share thoughts with other people, because now it seems like you don't really know what you are doing. What are you trying to achieve with this system? I assume that you want to get an average rating for every movie and then decide which movies are best? The best thing to do then (I think? if you've got a better idea or if I am wrong please correct me) is: remove all the movies mentioned so far and start again. Ask people to make a list of 10 movies (no more, no less), tell them that the nomination period closes at a certain date. At that date you collect all the movies mentioned, and you just ask people to vote. Things will be clearer and everybody has got the chance to nominate their favorite movies, also everybody can nominate an equal amount of movies. Harakiri
Everybody will rate the movies, I will then add the multiple scores, divide by the number of people who scored that movie, which means I will come out with the exact score when everyone voted. It's the summer, so I don't remember the exact terminology for doing this, but you should catch my drift. EDIT: It's called the Mode
Millard
Maybe only have 10 - 20 up at the start to rate and then add more after people have rated. Having 150+ is a tad overwhelming.

Suppose one person rates his favorite movie which noone else seen 10. The average for that movie, according to your calc, is 10... I still think that rating 20 movies of the list and summing up all the scores (without dividing) will reflect this forum's movie taste better. indy500fan
I like this idea better than the last (just throwing any movie in) but it still won't work. Also like that this dropped the movies to see before you die part and just keep it nice and simple as top movies. So what we need to do, lose the lists you already have. They were put together randomly by a few people. Then we need to have nominations, and we can a good amount of movies that way. Then we have to get all the nominations down to the top 100, but these two steps can be combined as one. I think people have mentioned this before, but just to make it clearer: Each person picks 10 movies, and they give each of those movies a value from 1 to 10. 10 being their favourite, 1 being their 10th favourite. You look for all instances of a movie in everyone's list, then add the numbers together. The movie with the highest number is number 1, and it goes from there. This would allow some movies that not many have seen to make the list (like half of Daan's list :P ) to actually be able to make it on the list, even if it is a little low.
