*shrug* I like Adult Swim. Given it's a little boring atm because of no new episodes, but once new EP's of shows like Venture Brothers and Frisky Dingo (god I Hope there will be a 3rd season) come in it'll get better.

And the anime they played on [AS] for the most part kind of sucked, so w/e. And ratchet, you like VG Cats so I can safely say we do not have the same tastes in comedy. :)

I got Boomerang the other day and thought "Thank GOD!".

But even then, they show the bad old shows.

I know stuff like Popeye, The Jetsons, and Flinstones are all classics, but I thought it would be stuff like Scooby Doo. (the originals, not the dozens of new ones that were just CN standing over SD's dead horse with the paddles screaming "LIVE!")

Dexter's Laboratory was such a disappointment, because I was just starting to like the show when they took it down. I never really like Ed Edd n' Eddy or Gym Partner because... well, they're just gross.

Foster's I really liked in the beggining, but it started to go after awhile. Chowder has it's clever moments, but for the most part it sucks.

Overall, I think the only thing on CN that I actually LIKE is Family Guy, and even then I have no reason to because I can just watch new episodes on Hulu.

I agree with riku. I tried to watch a spongebob episode the other day from a negative viewpoint, and I realized the show wasn't much better than the shows currently on cartoon network. It's only the nostalgia factor that keeps you liking the "classics." However I still believe Ed Edd and Eddy and Billy and Mandy are the best cartoons in the world :P

I agree with Riku about cartoon's not getting any worse. The only recent cartoons that I watched were Foster's and Flapjack because they reminded me of the shows I used to enjoy.

I originally hated when CN started airing Adult Swim because I was young and not allowed to watch the shows. However, since I have gotten older, I have grown on the shows and now enjoy having them there.

CN is just appealing to the younger generation and maintaining high ratings. You can't blame them for that.

Don't they play the whole episodes on Google's videos?

And Johnny Bravo, Ed, Edd & Eddy, and Original Scooby Doo's were my favorites, nothing counting on A/S.

Do the play Invader Zim on CN or Nick? Or used to...? I don't even know if it's still on air.

The only kid shows I see are the ones in the morning. Everything else is like teenage-ish... stuff. Slamball? Quiz shows? Survive this? 16teen and total drama? They're all pg-13 stuff.

What actual kid would want to watch this? Before this they tried to appeal to everyone at the same time. Sure, it was a kids based network, but, now they're trying to make it a "cool teenager" channel.

This actually reminds me of those new Nerf swords commercials showing a ... 17 year old boy(?) playing with them. Don't get me wrong, the guns are hilariously fun, but, yeah...

Amen.

I enjoyed Billy and Mandy. That show made so many references to things kids wouldn't understand, and it was usually pretty disgusting and morbid. That show was really good.

Agree.

Remember the time I said, that all they're churning out is just [cabbage]ty flash animation like stuff ?

Well, I'm right. They have nothing of the classics

Dexter's Lab, Courage, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, and Loony Tunes.

What happened to those !

I think it's because all the TV execs are like :

- "Whoa ! We have to get with the INFO-AGE YO' ! Lets makes [cabbage] shiny and polished without this oldschool "animation" [cabbage]. Yo' feeling me ? You muthas' be bustin dat' old school shiznit. We don't need dat' in the hood"

Honestly, I'd prefer cellulose scratches that make me laugh over straight clean lines that make me blow chunks.

I'll post examples.

And recently I was watching TV during the afternoon, and apparantly something called AOL "Kids" exists and they're broadcasting this same crap.

Well I knew they had some of the meheh stuff like Hillbilly Bears and such, but, I could have sworn they had Dexter's Lab on there.

The really old toons and such were kinda lame on the jokes, but, I attribute that to it still being a new concept in general when those rolled through. The stuff today has already been done. We're just watching CN's version of recycled reality t.v.

Lol, I think VG cats is hilarious. They make fun of everything. I like it better than Penny Arcade...I have never been able to read mass amounts of those strips.

Adult Swim Suck-

-Xavier Renegade Angel

-Mighty Boosh

-Tim and Eric Awesome Show

-King of the Hill (has it's moments, but I will never forgive Judge for making this instead of continuing Beavis and Butthead)

-The PJ's

-Squidbillies (once again, has it's moments but I've never liked it)

-Superjail

Good Stuff:

-Sealab 2021 (At least they still play this)

-Robot Chicken

-Family Guy

-ATHF

-Bleach

-Guardian of the Spirit thingy

-Boondocks

-Metalocalypse

-Venture Bros

-Frisky Dingo

Pretty much everything else on Adult Swim other than the stuff mentioned under good stuff sucks. There is just not enough good anime.

Nadril, I am sure we don't have the same tastes in comedy, but Venture Bros and Frisky Dingo are hilarious.

What is some new show on CN I think it's called Brainrush? WHAT THE [bleep] WHO THE HELL WANTS TO WATCH A SHOW OF PEOPLE RIDING RIDES!

Really, who the hell wants to watch some [kitty] kids ride roller coaster rides for fun? They make them seem so scary and that these kids have balls of steel....yeah because [bleep]ing roller coasters are so damn scary. And do those kids get PAID for riding the rides? OMG dream job if they do.

Link to comment

They get paid to answer questions while riding.

Although, one kid I had seen made $100 from just eating a cheeseburger before going on his final ride. I doubt he would have thrown up given the ride wasn't that extreme. Even if he did they wouldn't have shown it anyways.

Cash Cab on the Discovery Channel was the same thing except in a taxi and the questions didn't SUCK. You had to be smarter than the average two year old to answer questions on Cash Cab.

Lame.

I'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to be answering questions while riding on a roller coaster. Sure it may seem easy sitting on your couch but your not the one answering the questions.

It's also hillarious seeing these kids nearly [cabbage] themselves on the ride.

It would be harder than just standing there answering it. Although, I have had conversations on roller coasters before. It's not that bad unless you're like umm.. well, it's actually on right now (for the 3rd time in 3 days). The kid that REALLY freaks out on the ride. He's the only one I've seen. Otherwise the others were more preoccupied with the questions than the coaster.

Not really related, but... If you're going to start a new show you should probably either have a couple episodes already made or don't air the show EVERY DAY.

The bold ones are where you're wrong.

Xavier is awesome. Honestly, I usually don't like the idea of using puns for humor but Xavier just goes overboard on them to the point of hilarity. Not to mention it's just a mind [bleep].

King of the Hill is really funny too, I like it better than Beavis and Butthead. You need to really watch a bit of it though before getting into the characters, and I do agree that the episodes centered around Peggy can get annoying.

Squidbillies is just pretty funny. Not a favorite but it makes me laugh.

Superjail is amazing, I'm not sure why you don't like it. The annimation is amazing and I love just how violent it is. (Which, I guess, is the entire point of the show).

Your good stuff I agree with with the exception that I don't like Bleach (and not sure what Guardian of the Spirit is).

Lol, I think VG cats is hilarious. They make fun of everything. I like it better than Penny Arcade...I have never been able to read mass amounts of those strips.

Yeah I can't stand VG Cats.

^^^Guardian of the Spirit is the surname of an anime that plays after bleach. It's about this chick who has to protect the prince for a couple years and keep everyone who wants to murder him away. It's pretty good.

-Xavier: Hate the style, and have never found it funny.

-King of the Hill: It's alright. I watch it when there is nothing else on, but the sheer reason I didn't put it on the good list is because I don't think it belongs as much on Adult Swim.

-Squidbillies: Can be alright. His hats are funny, but it sometimes goes overboard.

-Superjail: Metalocalypse did brutal violence before it, and did it better.

Does anybody remember when Adult Swim played Saved by the Bell? Does anyone remember when adult swim played Pee Wee's Playhouse?

Were they starved for material or something. They still are, they resort to playing reruns all the time.

Moribito (Guardian of the Spirit) looks good, but I'm always in "game mode" when it comes on.

And please don't speak of saved by the bell or peewee. I must have managed to bury both of those until just now. That was when [adult swim] was going through it's "we'll be blunt about this. [bleep] you, viewers" phase.

Yes, they did it on purpose. I swear to hell and back it was on purpose.

I think its due to a lack of "uniqueness".

Producers seem to think reality TV is the next big thing. So they make reality TV shows: directly or not. Directly are the ones that are obvious, such as Brainrush. The indirect ones are like 6teen. While its not actual people, we see them do ordinary things that ordinary people do.

People don't want to see their lives redirected onto a screen, they want to explore and see unusual worlds. Repeating pop culture ideals onto shows like popularity or getting a date (chnages to getting laid on more "mature" shows).

Scooby Doo wasn't based on a high school. Shaggy (?) wasn't trying to get popular nor was Verma shopping for the party nor was Fred a jock worrying about his image. We were concentrated on following the mystery; piecing the clues together and finding a culrupt.

Now we look forward to seeing who will Ashley take to the homecoming dance. :|

Which isn't a bad thing nesessarily, but usually with the current scriptwriters its gonna suck. Some shows did really show some good light, like Ned's Declassified.

While it was watching at kids live out their every-day lives, at the same time it wasn't. The envioment and aura the director gave us made the school feel friendly and welcoming... Whereas the producers did another great thing few do nowadays. They didn't [bleep]ing milk it. Ned finished middle school, END IT THERE. They didn't do a "Ned's Survial Guide to High School" sequel show. That would of been awful since the entire show would of changed.

But then we got some other producers, like the guy(s) who run Total Drama Island. Show ended, great. But no, now they gotta make Total Drama Action. z0mg. #-o

Kim Possible another horrid. I used to watch it a few years back, something to pass the time. But now I can't stand it. "Like, oh my gosh, really?!" Yes really go back and kick her [wagon]. She worries more about getting a date to the dance than a blue-skinned man destorying the world. Who thinks of this stuff up? Way to show kid's their priorities. "Mommy I can't go to dad's funural." WHY?! "The new Backstreet boys CD is coming out today at the mall and Ashley's gonna be there. Bow chika bow wow."

In a nutshell, don't do something that was JUST made. Bob makes a romance movie about a English girl and Irish man. Alex saw that movie, liked it, noticed others liked it, and decided to make a romance movie about a German guy and a French girl. I mean WTF we just SAW something similar to that last month. Same thing now. "Oh, looka that. Teenagers trying to impress one another for Prom. Billy, lets make our own show. It'll be about four teenagers trying to... trying to... uhhh...get popular and get dates. Score! How original will that be? ... Dates does not equal Prom by the way, Billy; don't flame me like that..."

Last but not least...RANDOMNESS. God damnit it digusts me sometimes...especally in Adult Swim (one of the great downhills of Family Guy). The show is going on, whatever. Then somebody falls down but, in the slight chance of a million, ten toxic posions pours down his eyes, knives stab through his heart, and he combustes into fire.

In the name of comedy... Burping, falling down, getting hit by doors, violence, loooooooong useless repeats of words (Peter Griffon's hurt knee. God that was pointless for THAT LONG.), overuse of the word "Motha-[bleep]a!", over glorizing popularity traits, over glorizing the anti-popular kids (CANT YOU BE IN THE MIDDLE FOR CHRIST' SAKE), repeating lame phrases in hopes of making it funny, using the same characters but different names, and ultamately to the writers and directors+producers who let this thing pass:

DO YOU KNOW WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A ROUGH DRAFT AND A FINAL DRAFT?! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO USE THE LATTER.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

Fantastic rant! =D> Have a Pepsi. ::'

I agreed with everything you said minus the parts about randomness. Sometimes randomness is very funny when used properly. Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Super Jail live off of it and I feel they did a very good job with the comedic insanity. I can't say the same for Xavier, but, like someone already mentioned, it's a mind [bleep].

And, lol @ Verma. I laughed so hard I don't know why.

I agree, and that doesn't only apply to television, but music too. A lot of kid bands nowadays are just copying their favorite bands. "They were successful. So let's be just like them, and that will make us successful!" It doesn't work that way. Entertainment should be innovative - not just a half-baked melting pot of everything that has already been done, seen, said millions of times. Take super hero movies for example. I forget who said it but they made a good point. Instead of moving forward, we're doing nothing but recycling the past.

Verma ?

:?:

The character he was referring to was Velma, from Scooby-doo. I had a "lol, what if her name WAS Verma?" moment.

And, yeah, new teenage bands today are full of whiny guys singing the same song, just with different words. I can't help but point a finger at Disney for these ... excuses ... for quality music.

Randomness can be very funny, and for the most part, Family Guy has pulled it off well. (excluding Conway Twitty)

Then there's shows like Chowder. It's random, but at the same time it's incredibly inventive.

It's the shows that are nothing but people shouting out random words that really suck, and show no effort whatsoever.
