Shiny
This is my potential computer setup, all the parts that I might buy for my new computer. I was wondering if there was anything I could change down. The computer will mainly be used for Graphic Design (We are looking at photoshop, basic 3D rendering and maybe after effects), gaming, music and browsing the internet. These are the parts I might buy. That, and $120 to get it assembled, because I am too wimpy to do it myself. I really don't trust myself wiring it all up and stuff. That is around $950, including Moniter, Mouse, Keyboard and an OS. Is this good? Bad? I assembled it on a site called http://www.ascent.co.nz, in PC Builder, using the Budget setup as my base. Did the conversion properly...still good? Bad?
Laura
Does your US conversion include the price to get it assembled? Either way it's not a bad value.
Hobgoblinpie
Only thing I'm noticing that may be an issue is the 32bit version of Vista Home Basic, which will mean that you'll get around 3-3.5gb only out of the 4 you're paying for. It's not a big deal though. And the price looks quite good. POH Agility Course, Please Support!
Shiny
32bit Vista, or 64Bit? I take it 64bit runs faster, with less memory usage? I am sure I could manage on this new computer with just 3.5 or so. Soundcard....Is it worth it?
Hobgoblinpie
It doesn't run faster (Well, It might do, I still use Windows XP 32bit), the only difference is that 64bit will utilise all of your computers memory (if you have 3gb+). But I think 32bit and 64bit versions are the same price (they were when I checked them on Micro Direct). And you could easily run your system with 3.5. I can't really vouch for any soundcard, because I usually just use some Cheapo ones, which seem to work very well (until you reach high volume). POH Agility Course, Please Support! Shiny
Any soundcards (cheapo's) unser $30US, worth buying? Or is staying with the motherboard soundcard fine?
sloter
Any soundcards (cheapo's) unser $30US, worth buying? Or is staying with the motherboard soundcard fine? Do you plan on running any high quality sound? Such as 5.1 or 7.1 or even SPDIF out/in.
Laura
Any soundcards (cheapo's) unser $30US, worth buying? Or is staying with the motherboard soundcard fine? No. You'd notice richer sound from higher quality speakers before you noticed it from your sound card. The ones integrated on motherboards are perfectly acceptable for the majority of users, especially if you're just listening to music. 32bit Vista, or 64Bit? I take it 64bit runs faster, with less memory usage? I am sure I could manage on this new computer with just 3.5 or so. Soundcard....Is it worth it?Neither is really faster than the other. The only predominate difference is that 64 bit utilizes a larger memory allocation (in this case you could use the entirety of your 4GB). I would personally stick with 32 bit at that amount of RAM, as the driver support for 64 bit is extremely lacking.
Shiny
I'll just stick with my motherboard card for now. If I really need one, I'll purchase one, and install it meself.
OldJoe
Get 64bit Vista. Change your optical drive to a sata one, ide takes up too much space. I don't know what kind of a psu sits in that cooler master case, but give them a call and ask them if this would work (i can't remember how much it consumes, but i guess 75-90w since it has a pci-e connector). And if you can afford it, it would be great. Since the 9500gt sucks at gaming. Was a bit annoyed they didn't have any 4650's with ddr3 in stock, since they offer good performance for it's value. If you know overclocking, you can get your cpu up to around 3.2ghz pretty easily. Get this hd instead, bit more expensive but you get 180gb more and i'm not a fan of Seagate since their escapades earlier. Sbrideau
64bit Vista is much faster than 32bit Vista from my experience. Also, saying that the only difference is the RAM capability of usage is very wrong, there's much more than just RAM to a 64bit OS. I can dig up a link if you guys want. Hobgoblinpie
It's the only difference I know of, because I'm still using 32bit XP. I know it has more advantages than that, but that's all i could come up with. POH Agility Course, Please Support!
Mil
$200 for Vista Home Basic? Wow... Do not buy the OS from this company, you can just buy the OS (Vista Home Premium at least) later through Amazon/Newegg etc. (I'm not sure about the Windows 7 upgrade thing...) i_love_burritos
What website or where did you get the "thing". Drop down table/application. Just asking, but why do you need such a high power video card ?

Just asking, but why do you need such a high power video card ? http://www.ascent.co.nz/ He first took the 9500gt, which isn't good for gaming. Sure you're able to play at 1024x768 on medium settings with 15-30fps (depending on game) but for any fun gaming you'll need a bit beefier card. Shiny
Found out my case only has two front USB ports. Can anyone find one, with about 3 - 4 ports, around 420-500W? Around $150NZD or less?
OldJoe
You won't find anything for that price. And just use the back-usb.
