The_Mather1
I think we should just assume that a dyson sphere/bubble can power a warp drive, because otherwise, it is basically impossible to go FTL. This is the method that rapes physics the least, so I'm good. Wormholes are not against the laws of physics but are a faster and easier to create way than warp to bypass some of the laws. As wormholes may need more energy to start than warp, wormholes need only be active for seconds or minutes and therefore doesn't need an impossible amount of power. Seraphi
And wormholes also unbalance gameplay. I mean, why the hell should I play if somebody is just going to warp like 5 million troops onto my home planet? Can we PLEASE just stick to 10-20 times faster than light, normal travel, instead of warping. PLEASE!

The_Mather1
How many times do I have to say it? A stargate's wormhole has to be connected to another stargate which then can have some sort of iris to prevent unvelcome people from coming through. They can also be put wherever you'd like to have them, although having the front 1 meter from something important isn't very smart as the unstable vortex made upon connection dissolves anything it comes in contact with(exept an iris which is to close for it to form). Seraphi
That totally eliminates the point, and makes us have to travel through hundereds of light years of space to invade them anyway, since we can't get anywhere near them unless we're their neighbors. Jesus christ, can't we just agree to use warp engines? Make it so it takes us like 5 game days to travel a light year, that would be pretty balanced as far as I can see. Wisp
Yeah, you'd have to fly somewhere to make the stargate. I think the speed should be determined by the ship. Like a massive capital ship would take longer than a tiny ships. Or some ships could research better engines. But the average ship should take an hour to two hours real life time to travel a lightyear. This still will cause time travel though. Because if I traveled 100 lightyears in 10 years, I would be seeing 90 years into earth's past if I looked back . Hegemony-Spain

That merely means you can't launch a full-scale attack through the gate alone, although I haven't sugguested that to be the only way of FTL travel. And doom, you would only see the past that way, if you went back things would still be the same, but that is the way of all FTL travel. Seraphi
FTL communication is also allowed, I assume? I can see no solution to the time travel problem, so we must either ignore it, or work out a way to fix it. I still think we should just use engines and not stargates. I just don't see the need for them is all, they would overcomplicate gameplay.

The_Mather1
I start produce some atomic construction machines using quartz sircuit boards and thus alow them to have a greater memory. I will now take orders from any one of you to make you what you want for a fair price when the machines are completed. -I will not make nukes, missiles or any other weapons capable of massive destruction. Yeah, I guess subspace or any similiar means of comunication would be allowed. Twitter: @TheMather1

Wisp
How about ftl communication powered in the same way by an initial energy pulse, travels at 100 times the speed of light or something. Or 50. That way it still takes time, but not an unreasonable amount. Hegemony-Spain
