Cptbaker08
Only if you use them. Other then that the charges all stay. And instead of having to use all the charges you can just empty it to sell it. Funny that there area few who didn't know about this. Cptbaker08
how do i use them? is it just on dragons? how do i know when its full When equipped just operate it and it will fire it the next round of combat. And you'll get a message that it is fully charged. Most people don't like to use the charges as you lose defense from the shield and would then have to recharge it. J35u5_M4
Each charge makes its def higher, it can hold up to 50 charges, it can't be traded with charges and you can use the charges to attack, I've heard it owns people in pvp (Those who are not using antifire or antibreath shield) as the attack is considered dragon breath, and, like the dragon bolts (e) it can high pretty high. Good luck with it, have fun
P4duke
It can hit up to 25, the damage is magical, not dragonfire though (even if it's negated by dragonfire shield).
walka92
on top of what they said, the best place to charge it (even if youve already charged yours, remember this) is at the room in chaos tunnels with 2 bronze dragons. bring the shield and an anti breath and stand between them so they are both using fire, itll be charged in under a minute. I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

Yeah it doesn't hit as hard, but other than that everything I've seen shows it to match dragon fire. Ever tried discharging a DFS on a creature that attacks with magic? Or on a player with dragonhide / karil / whatever mage defence and on a creature that is melee only? On a Magic Resistant Creature it usually splashes (LIKE MAGIC!!!), on a Melee creature it hits almost always. --> It's magic, unlike Dragon Bolts [e] which hit very high on range, mage, melee creatures/players. Sy_Accursed
I've seen it hit equally hard and splash jsut as much against all types of armour and monsters tbh. My_Eggs
Alright guys, stop this pointless debate. You're basically just going back and forth saying "I've seen this." "No, I've seen this." So until one of you can post a link to some solid info, this is just pointless. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. So until one of you can post a link to some solid info, this is just pointless. Actually if you want to be picky with it: The solid evidence is Jagex fansites etc all describe it as "Dragon fire", by assumption that this means the same as dragon fire in reference to dragons it would imply what I am saying is correct. But there is no solid testing either way to prove it to be any sort of specific attack or to prove it to act the same (damage excluded) as general dragonfire. But it's not really something hugely worth testing given that charges are rarely used and largely not that effective as an attack unless you get lucky. aspeeder
Here'e the atricle from the Knowledge Base: "* The dragonfire shield is a remarkable piece of equipment capable of unleashing the awesome power of a dragon's fiery breath. See Smithing - Extra Features for details about how to make a dragonfire shield. To charge your dragonfire shield you will need to fight dragons. As the shield still holds all the abilities of an anti-dragonbreath shield, you will be protected from most of the damage of the dragon's flame. Each time the shield protects you, it will charge up, storing the power of the breath to be unleashed later. A dragonfire shield can hold fifty charges of dragon's breath. To see how many charges your shield has, right-click on it and select 'Inspect'. To discharge the flame, right-click on the equipped shield while you are in combat and select 'Operate'. The shield will then fire a deadly blast of fiery energy at your opponent, potentially inflicting massive damage. The shield will need to cool down for a while before you can unleash its flames again. ~ The shield can hold up to fifty charges, and each charge stored within it will add +1 to its stab, slash, crush and ranged defence. So, for example, with 30 charges stored it will have + 50 stab defence, + 55 slash defence, + 52 crush defence, + 10 magic defence and + 52 ranged defence. The shield can be charged by the breath of any dragon (including the King Black Dragon's ice and poison breaths) or skeletal wyvern. shawn3090
I personally believe it is dragonbreath, because it is impossible to hit dragons with it. I always use the special on green dragons to get the kills faster than other meleers, and it never hits. However, it is possible to kill dragons with magic.
