What "makes" RuneScape?

Featured Replies

In my opinion, the 3 biggest differences of runescape and every other game is:

1)Runescapes quests usually take on a puzzle element, rather then finding/killing X like in most games.

2)The way combat is trained

3)The armour/weapons of the game.

That and the CEO of our game is treated like a Messiah by the players. -.-

MMG is very similar to OMG. Could it be that...? Nah.

Lest we forget that he took over just 2 weeks after Obama, another leader treated like a Messiah? Coincidence? :o

... probably.

Mostly standing around in banks imagining how rich/famous you would be if you could be bothered training.

Or, indeed, if you didn't play this unrelentingly tedious game.

The players, defnitely. Without which, the game would never exist.

I may be wrong, but I think that the thing that sets RuneScape apart form most games is the quests. They have a story, they come in difficulties ranging from a beginner who's been off Tutorial Island for 5 minutes to a player with levels all in the 70s to 90s, and has spent years playing.

All my experience with quests in other games is "Kill 7 Blood Demons from the evil pit of Khazad, and take the Holy Staff of the Elements from them" or something like that.

This. I had quit Runescape for about 4 years and the only reason I created a new account and started playing again was for its unique quests and its storylines. All quests from other MMORPGs I've played were only about killing X monsters or getting X items.

Quests are really the main use of my character.

The second thing that sets Runescape apart from other MMORPGs are the many unique skills available to train for your character to have a certain "profession", if you will. Plus, these skills are the major time consumers for most players; this is the "meat" of Runescape that really keeps most people entertained.

The third thing is being able to boot up the game from the browser and not having to download the game onto your hard drive. It's fast and efficient, hardly any waiting for your game to download or loading different areas.

Personally, these three things are what really sets Runescape apart from the other MMORPGs.

tldr version:

1. Quests

2. Skills

3. Browser playability

The game is great, and is bad due to the players.

That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.
