Belgian man was in a coma for 23 years... Or was he?

But, don't let those conservative nutjubs (or are they called teabaggers now? ha!) get a hold of this story, or they'll decry this as what socialized medicine will do.

They're called Guy Fawkers now.

Ah right, forgot about Colbert.

That's probably my worst fear; being trapped in my body without any control. That must have been terrible for him.

I agree, it's scary thinking about it.

Pff, great doctors we have here...

Anyway, what the hell did he do for 23 years in a bed? And it must really suck if you see people coming near your bed and staring at you or whatever they do. But damn, the worst part is not being able to do anything for 23 years...

I dont get it, did he still have his vision? Or were his eyes always closed and he was left with his mind to think.

That reminds me of a story on the news a few nights ago. A man lives with his 10 year old son, and his son willingly gives up his time to help his dad 24/7, he's dad has a disease that slowly paralyzes all is nerves and in time, becomes a vegetable with a full working brain, unable to do literally anything as if he's trapped in a frozen prison (until it paralyzes his lungs/heart). Its rather tragic such things happen, as well as this Belgium man's case.

Wow that's intense. I can't imagine doing that.

Oh, wow. That must have been utterly terrifying at first. o-o

And meh, you never know what you'd do unless you're in that position...

Can anyone answer this?

The closest I have ever come to that is sleep paralysis, and that only lasts a minute at the most. And I can assure you for the brief moments a person experiences it, they experience true terror. Now imagine a person going though that for 23 years. If they came out of it sane I would be surprised.

If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing if he had his eyes open and looking around, they would've realized he's not in a coma a few decades earlier...

Well atleast he know exactly what is important to him, as well as prioritize his life. Been thinking lately and I wouldn't be able to stand it.

I read that his family tried to treat him normal and do things like take him to family weddings and such
