Best monsters to mage

Well magic has always been my favorite skill, but the cost has always been what's keeping me from getting it higher. I'm just curious, what are some of the best monsters to mage while profiting/breaking even/losing very little? And what is the mage xp/hr there? Thanks!

Abyssal demons are quite awesome due to their negligible magic defence

I fire surged them for a bit with a wolpertinger and an air staff for 90 -> 92 magic

Over the course of these two magic lvls, i could probably count the number of times my spells splashed with the fingers on both of my hands

~800-1200 spells cast per hour depending on how much time u spend looting, banking, etc

~10 spells per kill

~120 xp per cast

 

The whip drop rate is heavily tested, to be around 1/400

assuming this is true, the average value of an abyssal demon kill based solely on whip drops, is currentl 10.5k gp

fire surge on the other hand costs 815 gp with an air staff, and will kill a demon in ~ 10 shots (8150 gp)

I'm only 70 slayer (20k from 71), and I don't think I'll get 85 anytime soon.

Tough I have found it very difficult, there is a guide about maging aviansies. You should try and search it. I believe it is in General guides. It has statistics about best spell and profit / exp rates. Even a possibility to tank them. I have yet to try it with full tank gear, the writer has proven it is possible. (that is, without prayer). I believe they are weak to earth spells! Who would have thought.

Well I don't have much money (6m cash, and I'm not fond of selling items just to pay for something), so rock lobs is kind of out of my range.

Plus, if you do slayer, you'll have almost no need of charms. I'd say look into non-combat magic, because without ancients, magic doesn't get much faster than 60k per hour (Combat). There are loads of ways to train magic outside of combat. I'd superheating until you can cast plank make.

The prices fluctuate too greatly, you would have to check yourself. For plankmake, the best is mahogany planks. For superheat, the best xp means superheat iron.

Alright thanks, I'll look into a combination of Avi's and superheat since I enjoy some combat.

Barrows. You can fire wave the melee brothers/ice burst them for teh lulz. You'll always make a profit. Not the greatest mage EXP, but good fun.

I do go to barrows here and there, but I use black sally so not the best mage xp, and then switch to whip for the tunnels, but it does give some variation.

i'd suggest learn solo rex maging....I got 80-83 magic there...with around 20m profit......

If you want to use Claws Of Guthix spell on them i would say no. Having 80 magic helps out as you can use Charge to increase the damage. Also using the Void Maces helps here with its +6 prayer and magic damage as well as 10% damage increase.

All demons are also weak to mage. While not a good use for cash, it's fun to mage/telegrab greater demons through the cage in the Watchtower dungeon.
