Chat Macroers in GE

Ya sure its not that bad when you see a Chat Macroers in GE that only has it say it at reasonable times but here recently noobs are like...

Join [clan chat] for alot of [money]

Every second so you cant tell people stuff and it is annoying. When you goto the said clan chat you can't even talk its just a scam or something. Usually them telling you to buy something and alot then sell it later on and it happens to be one of their items.

I rarely touch that report abuse button, but I really want Jagex to do something about them, so I sometimes report chat macroers for disruptive behavior.

Normally, I put my chat on hide when near the GE, but when I see one of those merchant cc macros, I put my chat back to public and report them. They're obviously botting with auto-typers. I have yet to meet someone who can legitimately type wave:white:Join [name cc] for big money!!!!!! in2 seconds. Turning your chat off/friends or put them on your ignore list works if you don't want to be accused of "wannabe mod".

It'd be nice if Jagex would start IP banning those who make GE merchanters, or at least do an IP trace and ban accounts associated with it. Like back when they would trace IPs to hit players who were botting to trade to their mains.

No the thing is those who are using the ge right cant post without having it knocked out of chat by someone saying something in 2 secs, and it lags. I'd send one mod in and ban all of them.

On world 1 it'll lag you crazy i dont see how people could even do what they're asking lol

Why? As long as you don't go "OMG reported" you're doing the community(or what's left of it) a great, great favour...

i truly think Jagex should ban any merchanting all together.

It should go back to the classic ways, of that players should have to make their money via drops, skilling/creating higher worth items and trading as it normally would be.

Totally agreed with what you said, along with the entire thread.

These clans and autotypers are seriously going out of hand...

I agree with the OP. It's become more than just spam, it's like a disease that Jagex isn't doing anything about. There should be some sort of nerf like Mint cakes, but more targeted unlike the Old Wilderness and Trade Limits removal.

Quick fix - Spam filter. You will be limited to one message per 20 seconds.

That's terrible! It would be impossible to have a conversation.

This is the problem. Ignoring them doesn't help.

I don't think a merchanting ban would be a good idea. It is one of the great things about the game, when not abused.

As for the Chat Macroers, I rarely go to the GE anymore, but when I did I had to flip my public to friends or I could barely move. I can't see any realistic solution for the problem, though. Reporting them or adding to ignore will work temporarily, assuming the report is successful, but there will be more and more created.

This could work, but it would have a negative impact on the game, at least for the short term.

Solutions:

1. Add a type checker. If you say the same thing over and over and over again in like 1 second a piece it should mute you all together for a day. This would stop noobs who go " "

" "

" "

" "

To hide what people are saying or jsut annoy us. Of course it could check stuff over 12 characters long. Or it could simply log them out automatically or Hide their next sentence that looks like taht.

2. If someone repeatedly says something over 20 characters long that should be too fast and it spams the chat it should auto log em off.

3. Not thought of yet.

1. Would be no good. They are macroing so they would just set the macro to cycle through several different text

2. Is interesting. Something like that might work. If the game detects you typing too fast you get a 30 second mute and a warning. If you continue to spam after that 30 seconds then you get a 1 minute mute, then 5 minutes, then 10 minutes, then if you are STILL spamming after all that time (about 40mins-1hour of spamming/being muted) then you get a 24 hour mute.

Whats even more pathetic is there was a mod watching two players do it. I said

"Mod, why dont you do anything about them?"

and he said

"Report them for macroing and ignore them, Jagex will deal with them"

I mean common, its an outright breaking of rules, they should be muted on the spot.

the issue with hiding/muting repetitive text is that its a commonly used method in clan wars.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

Perhaps then in minigames the chat spam filter would not count?
